Population density

[edit]

@Mattximus: FYI, you may be able to find areas for the towns and cities, but I haven't been able to find areas for the villages. Kaldari (talk) 22:31, 26 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I noticed this problem, I might just remove that whole column if we can't come up with a source! I can't even track down the number found here: Belize City of 35.667km^2. Mattximus (talk) 22:51, 26 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Kaldari:, I removed both columns because I couldn't find any data, let me know if you can find any and I'll add them back. Mattximus (talk) 21:56, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Mattximus: one other thing to look out for: some villages in Belize have an English name and a Spanish name and sometimes the government will use one and sometimes the other, so it can be confusing. For example Cowpen is also known as San Juan. Kaldari (talk) 22:30, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

San Ignacio/Santa Elena

[edit]

@Mattximus: In case you're wondering about San Ignacio/Santa Elena, they are basically 2 separate towns that are legally the same municipality. They have a single mayor, but anyone who lives there will say they live in either San Ignacio or Santa Elena, not "San Ignacio/Santa Elena". They have separate census figures, but share one Wikipedia article. I'm not sure if it makes more sense to keep them separate or together for this list. Kaldari (talk) 20:28, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Kaldari: That's what I thought and that is what is reflected in the 2000 census (where they shared a single figure), but for some reason they split in 2010? Do you know why the census split like that? I think if they have 1 mayor like you say we should put them back together as a single entry, we just need a source for it. Better name for this page?

[edit]

The current name is a bit verbose, but I changed it from municipality since I could not find that term used in any of the sources. However I'm wondering if this can simply by merged into Local government in Belize? It's a nicer title and should encompass both a thorough description of local governments and the list. What are your thoughts? Mattximus (talk) 12:53, 19 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Mattximus: I think "municipalities" is fine. Clearly that's what they are and the Government of Belize also refers to them as such. See for example the 2nd source in the references, http://www.belize.gov.bz/index.php/our-governance/how-we-are-governed/local-government: "The term of office is three years for all municipalities.", "Councils have a statutory duly to provide ‘rules and good governance’ for their municipality and to provide certain basic services." The current article wording referring to the municipalities as "local councils" is misleading. A council is not a municipality, it's a governing body for a municipality. Done, if you have time you can make any corrections to the current article wording to be more accurate. Mattximus (talk) 02:51, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
