Asterisks

[edit]

What do the asterisks near some of the Quranic passages refer to? There is no clear indication. paco758 16:42, 30 December 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paco758 (talkcontribs)

I found the reference at the first entry in the list where it applied and moved it to the top. paco758 16:43, 30 December 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paco758 (talkcontribs)

The asterisks were confusing I deleted them. The characters mentioned by name in the Qur'an are divided into prophets and nonprophets, 25 named prophets are mentioned in the Qur'an.Kiatdd (talk) 08:47, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Maalik may not be a name after all.'Aziz' is definitely not a name, it is an adjective. Kiatdd (talk) 08:50, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yeshua / Isa / Jesus / Spirit of Allah / Word / etc.

[edit]

Would it be prudent to include the various other terms or understandings that Jesus / Isa is called and / or identified? For example the "Spirit" and "Word" of Allah? I'm considering compiling these references into a sum total and adding / editing them into the list. Any help, suggestions or critique would be appreciated.

Included the compilation and will add a note at the bottom of the article clarifying the primary sources and further details. If anyone has issue, please edit out or bring up in discussion the issue(s) instead of deleting the entire contribution / edit, thank you. --HafizHanif (talk) 23:27, 29 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As the article is about List of people mentioned BY NAME (including general ones), we have to ignore other passages such as pronouns. It seems that Jesus' (peace be upon him) one was wrongly edited.--78.145.24.153 (talk) 18:11, 30 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your point, thus why I asked the question regarding the several other identifications and descriptions of Isa, for a 'name' isn't "Son of Mary", yet this is commonly considered a name in Islamic theology and tradition, correct? -- HafizHanif (talk) 18:15, 30 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
181 has to be removed nevertheless. People will learn wrong stuff from here. On which of the sources is 181 mentioned?--78.145.24.153 (talk) 18:46, 30 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
My friend, please read the notes. The numbering and which term is referenced, explained and noted / counted. If you are asking for which citation ( regarding a published accounting ) supports the number(s), then we're going to have to ask citations for each name on the list, for only the primary source ( the Quran ) is cited, and this is insufficient according to WP:PRIMARY. -- HafizHanif (talk) 18:52, 30 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Another thing. Dhul Karnain has been considered as a prophet by a great amount of scholars. Otherwise we could make another sections suchas POSSIBLE PROPHETS.--78.145.24.153 (talk) 18:47, 30 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
78.145.24.153 (talk), if you find some scholarship regarding that claim, then go ahead and list that man as well. Otherwise, that would be considered WP:OR and will most likely be deleted, and the majority of this article actually falls under that risk. -- HafizHanif (talk) 18:59, 30 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That's why I made this PROBABLE scholars due to WP:NEUTRAL. But what about Jesus (peace be upon him)? That tremendous number is unacceptable? Where did you get that from? --78.145.24.153 (talk) 19:19, 30 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

For the spirit of Allah there are 2 less than what's written.. in 19:17 it refers to Jibril (read the whole verses).. and i dont find it refer to isa spirit in 58:22 Azz09090 (talk) 01:51, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Peace be with you Azz09090 (talk). Regarding those two verses, it seems to be a matter of interpretation. Verse 19.17 does not clearly identify Gabriel (although it has been commonly interpreted as such). Verse 58.22 does not identify 'who' the spirit is, aside from saying "from" Allah. -- HafizHanif (talk) 22:29, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Luqman

[edit]

Why is Luqman mentioned as a prophet, do you have any source? Also Uzair is apparently labeled as a prophet in the Qur'an on his Wikipedia page and as a "Non-prophet" here. Anyone going to explain or fix this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:CE6B:83B0:C942:1466:1264:B9A2 (talk) 17:27, 10 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Suggesting article merging or deletion

[edit]

Although this particular article seems comprehensive to be warranted like an encyclopedic entry, the lack of citations is an issue. I also notice there is no similar counterpart article in reference to Judaism, Christianity or the Old / New Testament (or "bible") (these three religions being similar and sometimes categorized as counterparts or cohesive evolutions in terms of religious history) with the same information "list of characters and names mentioned...". These are my points regarding deletion.

My point regarding merging is perhaps the article can be merged with any or all of these:

List of names mentioned in the Quran.

Prophets and messengers in Islam.

List of characters and names mentioned in the Quran.

All of these have, you guessed it, a lack of proper and adequate references. Deleting the four may not serve the purpose of forwarding adequate and insightful information, but perhaps merging what seems to be similar articles would be a move towards progress. I'm surprised these articles have lasted so long with those tags requesting additional citations / corrections (see tag dates) since they were started. -- HafizHanif (talk) 18:57, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, yeah. I'm thinking that we probably should reduce this to just something along the lines of "list of names in the Quran" (or whatever) and "list of prophets in Islam." I can see keeping prophets in Islam separate because some of them are not necessarily listed as prophets in the Quran. The other three articles are ultimately redundant, however. Ian.thomson (talk) 01:44, 10 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I am thinking of merging it into List of characters and names mentioned in the Quran, since I am adding references to that article, and the title encompasses this article's title. Leo1pard (talk) 12:46, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Ian.thomson and Leo1pard! Any consolidation would serve better the purpose of Wiki's effort. I'll be standing by to help! -- HafizHanif (talk) 17:32, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
