list of songs about Birminghah should be moved[edit]

Probably not about Huntsville, Alabama[edit]

"Back Home in Huntsville Again" by Shel Silverstein

I removed this one because the lyrics are about being back in prison, and so I think the song is very likely about the famous prison in Huntsville, Texas. See Huntsville Unit.

"Huntsville County Jail" by Mark Collie

I can find no evidence of the existence of such a song. Mark Collie has sung about prison, but I don't see any reason to think this is a song.

"Huntsville Incident" by Phil Lefebvre

I find no evidence of such a song, nor of a noted artist by this name.

"Huntsville Alabam" by Bert Starr

Bart (not Bert) Starr was a famous American football player who played for Alabama, but I find no evidence of this song existing.

"New Huntsville Jail" by Joe Evans and Arthur McClain

See: The Two Poor Boys - this song seems to exist, and I found the lyrics here: [1]. The song is on a compilation album for 1927-1931 when the Huntsville Unit was already well known, so it's probably about that, absent any evidence to the contrary.--Jimbo Wales (talk) 16:55, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've pretty well cleaned out the list, which wasn't what I set out to do, but here we are.

"Huntsville Rock 'n Twist" by Rex Hairston

This does exist and is a song and isn't about a prison, so I'm leaving it on there. It's not clear to me that it can be proven one way or another which Huntsville it's about, but it's quite Southern in sound, so... I'll let it slide.

The other two are quite clearly definitely about Huntsville, Alabama.

Agreed - there seems to be a fair amount of confusion with Huntsville, Texas. Most sources that purport to provide evidence for songs about Huntsville, Alabama have evidently used Wikipedia as their original source. Curiously, I did stumble across a legitimate Matt Farley song (Huntsville Forever!) about Huntsville, Alabama. Hayden Searle (talk) 00:11, 30 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
