Why I did not include any citation.[edit]

I am well aware that statements in Wikipedia should always cite their sources. This is a list of synagogues in Ukraine, in which case each synagogue listed has an article in Wikipedia. I hope (I have checked some) that for the statements that would need a citation (columns Built, Destroyed and Remarks) the sources are given in the related articles. For instance the entry for the Synagogue Chernivtsi - Czernowitz Synagogue gives a source for these statements (http://cja.huji.ac.il/Architecture/Czernowitz/Czernowitz-Temple/Temple-stages.html). So I do not think this is a case of citing Wikipedia as a source.

If this is not sufficient I see two alternatives: state the sources from the articles here once more, something I think is not necessary and involves a lot of formal work, or delete the three columns. That would satisfy the formal requirements, but it would not make the list any better (my opinion).

As I work on the similar list in German, I hope I can both improve this list and add more articles, but this will take some time. I do intend to check the sources in the articles and add them where they are missing or incomplete. --Wanfried-Dublin (talk) 07:12, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Representation of dates in columns Built and Destroyed[edit]

These two columns are sortable. But this only makes sense if they are numbers. In another list (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_von_Synagogen_in_Wei%C3%9Frussland) I overcame this problem by using italics, if the exact date is unclear and including a comment either in the column, seperated by br / or using the Remarks-column. I am not very busy at Wikipedia at the moment, but if this change is acceptable, I would start changing the columns so that they are properly sortable afterwards and no information is lost. --Wanfried-Dublin (talk) 09:37, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Some ideas to improve this list[edit]

Column Oblast: as the header already states Oblast, the entries do not need the word Oblast; when I have some time I will delete it (in some rows they are already absent).

But more important: should every entry have a Wikilink for the relevant Oblast, or only the first entry of each Oblast? I would appreciate some opinions about this topic before I start changing the column.

Pictutes: whenever a picture exists in Commons, it should be shown in this column; only in cases where no picture in Commons is available an external link (to judaica.cz or any other website) should be used. Again, before starting work on this, I would welcome other opinions.
