Stores and restaurants?[edit]

Trust me, the town is so small that all the businesses are important to the people who live there. If you're not from there, you wouldn't understand.

I don't believe small business should be listed unless they have a special significance. Delete section? Swegner 19:51, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Adamsville is not a neighboring town, it is part of little compton and answers to little compton jurisdiction.

Perhaps a listing of neighbourhoods in Little Compton would clear this up. I was confused when I read it to.Leah 03:19, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No entry on Little Compton is complete without mention of Sakonnet Vineyards, the oldest vineyard in New England. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.209.10.251 (talk) 12:50, 3 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ardin Myrin[edit]

I don't think the actress Arden Myrin is particularly relevant to Little Compton. Especially not right on top in the general entry. It seems like self-promotion. There's plenty of "interesting" people from the town. Someone should take that out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.28.14.89 (talk) 15:52, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't mind moving it. I think you're right. That's not the right place for it. I'm not familiar with the town myself, but if you say that there are many notables from there, can you tell me who? I can make a whole section on them. Then everyone's happy.  :) Chrissypan 18:32, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rhode Island Red[edit]

Little Comptons claims to fame, so to speak, is that it is the only place in the country with a monument to a chicken.

Map problem[edit]

The map shows Rhode Island, but there's no indication where this town is inside of it. -- Beland (talk) 13:59, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Little Compton in Bristol or Newport County?[edit]

Other sources, including List of Counties in Rhode Island, indicate that the towns transferred from Bristol County Massachusetts Bay to Rhode Island became Bristol County, not Newport County, Rhode Island. Were some of those towns transferred to Newport County at a later date? 2602:304:CDA6:4260:3CBA:6628:20B9:519D (talk) 23:08, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Little Compton, Warwickshire or Cullompton, Devon[edit]

Back on the 14th October 2018 User:Lubar changed this text from:

possibly in reference to Little Compton, Warwickshire

to

probably in reference to Cullompton, Devon

I have a great interest in the history of Cullompton and if there is a link to Little Compton, Rhode Island I would be fascinated. However, no reference has been provided for this connection. While there is a nice geographic mirroring here (Tiverton in Devon is also just to the North of Cullompton) the names are rather far apart (even allowing for the great variety of ways that Cullompton has been spelled over time, with Columpton being favoured until recently). I am tempted to revert this to go back to it being related to Little Compton, but I would welcome feedback.--NHSavage (talk) 19:33, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

As yet unpublished, but here's the evidence:
-As you note, Tiverton is adjacent to both towns.
-There is a Colebrook Woods between Cullompton and Tiverton in England, and Little Compton and Tiverton in the US.
-Several Little Compton families, including Rogers who was the Town Clerk when the town was named, came from within a few miles of Collompton.
And I'm told that Cullompton is pronounced: "Compton." Lubar (talk) 14:06, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
