Article name change
[edit]Should the title of this article be amended to 'London Aquatics Centre' to ensure consistency with the Aquatics Centre in Manchester? This is called 'Manchester Aquatics Centre'. The Olympic Delivery Authority use the term 'London Aquatics Centre', for example in the January 2008 report "London Aquatics Centre: Submission of Reserved Matters".

- On the assumption that there is no dissent against this, I am going to be bold and move it myself. Helps correcting redirects would be appreciated. DJR (T) 15:40, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit]I created an External Links section but am not sure if the layout is correct. Any suggestions/amendments much appreciated.

London Development Agency (LDA)
[edit]The LDA was responsible for organising the competition to select the architect for the Aquatics Centre. The Panel of eight responsible for the evaluation was headed by Lord Rogers, architect, and Lord Carter of Coles in his role as Chair of Sport England.
Nearly two hundred expressions of interest were followed by forty submissions which were reduced to a shortlist of six. The selection of Zaha Hadid was announced on 31st January, 2005, and detailed designs for the building were released in November 2006.
Would it be useful to add a section with this information to the main article? Subsequent events such as the need for the centre to be re-designed, the cost increases considerably in excess of the original budget and the delayed opening date all relate to this topic.

- Yes definitely! A good start to getting a proper 'development' section. Please make sure you add a source for any new info though - much easier to do this when info is added, rather than trying to go back later and find the source..Paulbrock (talk) 11:19, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Change priority
[edit]Should the importance of the article be raised from 'Low' as the London Aquatics Centre (LAQ) is becoming a topic of considerable interest in both the UK media and UK politics on both a local and national level? Topics raised about the LAQ include the deferred delivery date which has moved from 2008 to 2010, the substantial revisions to the design, and the increasing costs of the project which has significantly exceeded the original budget.
The election of Boris Johnson (Conservative Party) as Mayor of London, replacing Ken Livingstone (Labour Party), has seen renewed political interest in the LAQ. Boris Johnson has expressed concern over the management of the project and promised to carefully scrutinise all aspects, especially financial overspend. Dean Armond 14:38, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- The 'importance' of an article is relative to the particular WP:Wikiproject assessing it, so for example, this article is considered high importance under WP:Architecture (not sure why, I don't really know that project), but low under WP:OLYMPICS - this is because High for WP:Olympics would be the main London 2012 article, Medium would be the main Olympic Stadium (London) article and low for all other venues. See also Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Olympics/Assessment.
- If there was a London 2012 Wikiproject, then this may well get a Mid or High (maybe there will be in time, or at least a taskforce)
- In practice, importance doesn't really matter - it's only a guideline to help determine which articles to focus effort on, and is fairly subjective.
- Information on Boris's concerns would be great to add to the article! Paulbrock (talk) 17:08, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Depth and other technical information
[edit]I included information about the main pool depth (3m), but I couldn't find the depth of the diving pool (the minimum according to Olympic rules is 4.5m, although 5m seems more usual and I found pages claiming that in Beijing it was 13m (but I suspect that is an error)). --Rps (talk) 00:16, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
