Adrenoleukodystrophy[edit]

I deleted a reference to treatment for this disorder as it is best discussed on the Adrenoleukodystrophy page. This is a complex disorder and one reference on a

Why not go into detail about the treatment? That's one of the most important parts of the film, if not the most important. A majority of the the scenes in Lorenzo's Oil consist of Augusto trying to develop medicine for Lorenzo. The film itself is named after the medicine. I agree with O'Slatter, that discussion of therapy doesn't belong here. I think links to the various wiki-pages that get into therapy and the disease are barely adequate (and probably more than most want to know) so I added two sentences touching on the essential issues in a revision to the Reception section (see discussion on Plot section, below) while still focusing on the film, not the therapy.Lapabc (talk) 18:41, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Lorenzos oil.jpg[edit]

Image:Lorenzos oil.jpg is being used on this article. 'Plot' section[edit]

I think the Plot section needs to be expanded. Most Wikipedia articles about movies contain a blow-by-blow synopsis of the movie. This is more like a summary, like the blurb written on the back of the DVD case. FruitSalad4225 (talk) 20:14, 29 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I found the whole article to be a little disorganized and agree that there was a lot more summary rather than description. Separately, I found that follow-up information about the real-life family had been deleted which detracts from the article. For the Plot section, I fixed it in several ways. First, following cinematic writing conventions as to when characters are discussed for the first time, I put the names of actors in parentheses... this meant moving Nick Nolte and Susan Sarandon references from the Intro section into the Plot section. I added detail about other characters/actors. I added a description of the beginning of the film, whereas previously it jumped into a thematic conclusion that the parents were trying to save their kid, rather than a plot description of what was happening. I toned down a medical judgement at the end and inserted something about the father being driven to take on the new project. (Note that in previous versions, this was was explicitly identified as the "Myelin Project" and it was delted... I agree that it doesn't belong in the Plot section but it was important to alluded to this plot element, and something that took a life of its own beyond the movie).

I then expanded the "Reception" section to include 4 sentences about "Medical reaction." There actually was a reaction and this is stated and a reference is provided. But more importantly, people who turn to this article WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE DISEASE AND WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REAL PEOPLE so just having wiki-links lying around isn't good enough. So I put in 2 sentences that explain why it isn't miracle cure, with the final sentence noting that the subject of the film, Lorenzo, eventually died. I ASK THAT PEOPLE DO NOT DELETE THIS UNDER THE IDEA THAT IT IS EXTRANEOUS TO THE FILM. This is a very brief and succinct way of informing those people who land on this page seeking that info while sticking to the subject of the article -- the film. It's about the the subjects of the film, the "cure" and the kid.

Finally, someone above asked about Zach O'Malley Greenburg... that was one of the things I fixed in the Plot section, namely identifying him in the text and providing a wiki-link to his article.

Cultural references[edit]

I wonder if this article should include cultural references to the movie. It's such a memorable movie that there should be quite a few. The only one I know of is in the movie Paul Paul_(film) where Jason Bateman's character, Agent Zoil, reveals near the end of the movie that his first name is Lorenzo - "Lorenzo Zoil". Repeated removal of infobox[edit]

The infobox has been removed (and replaced) multiple times. Only once was an edit summary left with "Wrong information". If there is a problem, please explain it here.
