Lufuni website

Attention 81.132.25.144 and other users - links to the Lufuni .co.uk website (or similar sites) will be removed by me without notice. I suggest other editors do the same. That site appears to be an advertising site (or some type of pixel-selling site) of some type and is certainly not being used by Loughborough staff or students. --mintchocicecream 00:14, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Poor date references

There are too many words like "recent" and "current" or references to a future which has already happened. Please put in at least the year. It needs editing to establish the date of various statements.Chemical Engineer (talk) 15:40, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Images

The caption of panoramic image taken from the Carillon tower may give the impression that the large blue and white building in the foreground is part of the University, when it is in fact part of Lougborough College (a separate institution) maybe the caption should be changed or the image removed? Also, the images shown on this page seem rather "random", including a couple of departmental buildings (not particularly representative) a hall of residence (again, Hazelrig-Rutland is not the most representative hall, although it is fairly prominent architecturally and close to the entrance) and a pavement of all things. I agree there's too many images and not enough that are actually useful. If nobody else decides which ones are needed and which ones aren't then I'll decide on Loughborough's behalf. Stefanjcarney 10:08, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps use Images of some of the newer buildings (New Elvyn) and the Aero/Auto Department (which also contains a prototype Eurofighter!). Though the Loughborough College I believe is now owned by Loughborough University? 86.26.193.140 (talk) 23:40, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

Lists of names in this article should be sourced in accordance with WP:BLP. As there is no way of constantly maintaining linked articles, this applies to names which have a Wikipedia article as well as those that do not. University ratings

(I'm posting this to all articles on UK universities as so far discussion hasn't really taken off on Wikipedia:WikiProject Universities.)

There needs to be a broader convention about which university rankings to include in articles. Currently it seems most pages are listing primarily those that show the institution at its best (or worst in a few cases). See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Universities#University ratings. This was very visible in this article with only the one good ranking for the university being included and all the other ones which tended to rank it way outside the top ten disregarded. Have reverted second paragraph of lead to an earlier version (the version which existed until 26th July 2012) to remove inaccurate and unreferenced claim that Loughborough's engineering courses often rank in the top-five. I've looked through all versions of The Complete (2008-2013) and The Guardian (2010-2013) uni guides available online, each of which includes six discrete engineering disciplines and have found that Loughborough has only once ranked in The Complete top-five (2012, 3rd, Chem. Eng.), and only four times in The Guardian top-five (2013 & 2012, 4th, Civ. Eng.; 2011, 5th, Mech. Eng.; 2010, 5th, Minerals and Materials Eng.).--DeiElectus (talk) 20:23, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Harry French Historic Hall

The article Harry French Historic Hall is currently being considered for deletion. I suggested merging it with Loughborough University, but that is opposed in the AfD. I now suggest that information in the article, quoted below, about Dr. Harry French, be included in the section about the College becoming a University. Harry French is one Hall of Residence at Loughborough University, situated on Ashby Road approximately 200m from Loughborough campus.[1] Accommodating 389 students, Harry French is popular with both undergraduates and postgraduates looking for accommodation immersed in the University community.[2] Named after engineer/physicist, previously Senior Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council Loughborough (1981–1986), Dr Harry French was recognised as a specialist in the field of anti-aircraft radar engineering both before and during the Second World War. Building on Loughborough's historical significance,[3] French played a large part in persuading the ministry to allow such large areas of land to be used to develop Loughborough University and helped turn the College into a University in 1966. He was then appointed as Chief Inspector for Further Education and subsequently awarded with an Honorary D.Sc. at Loughborough University's very first congregation. The Hall was then officially opened by Dr Harry French himself on 10 January 1992.[4]
