death_place

[edit]

death_place is NOT a valid parameter for Template:Infobox_racehorse or Template:Infobox named horse. The Style guide says Infoboxes should summarize article and not include details not in the article. Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Infoboxes therefore death_place has no business in the source for the Infobox. Ahwiv (talk) 10:57, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you are correct that there is no death place parameter in that particular infobox documentation, my error. That said, infoboxes have various styles and often do contain information not in the article (though such things need to be sourced). The issue you raise has been debated hotly over the years and is subject to an ArbCom decision on the matter. Montanabw(talk) 16:02, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Montanabw: I can see the argument for not requiring everything in the Infobox to be in the article, in fact the {{coord}} sort of does that, but invalid parameters end up hiding the information and provide new value unless you edit the article.
