Self-authoring?

[edit]is there anywhere it can be confirmed that she received 'first class honours' other than from her own autobiographical input? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Djlemon (talk • contribs) 03:08, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
This entry in line with all others of similar age and notability. University degree classes are not online and can not be verified. Assumption is that for any notable persons classmates and professors peer review renders it impossible - or impossibly counter-productive - to falsify such claims, especially of first-class honours, which are widely well remembered. 1paulasr 13:01, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
Separate article
[edit]I am attempting to write a separate article about the explosive demise of the steamboat "Lucy Walker". This event was a major factor leading to Federal legislation and safety regulations. The persons killed in the esplosion included the owner and his son-in-law, an important Virgianian, an inventor, several clergymen, and a possible assassin of a Kentucky abolitionist. The owner of the Lucy Walker" was a Cherokee Indian Joseph Vann and the crew were African-American slaves. There are several eyewitness accounts and recollections of former slaves (including a daughter of one of the crewmen). I have a map of the site of the explosion, an engraving of the event, a copy of a vessel document, and a copy of the Louisville newspaper notice of the vessel's departure. I need technical help in this endeavor, and believe that my "Lucy Walker" was much more significant than either of the other Lucy Walkers in Wikipedia. User: Oconostota
Changes made
[edit]When I came across this article, the version at the time here struck me as promotional with the following issues:
- Lack of infobox, indicating little attention from long-term editors
- Professional headshot, unusual for this kind of figure
- Extensive biographical detail without much sourcing to support it
- Extraneous detail about each and every film; while each film can be discussed, details belong on their articles
- Filmography lacked blue links and shared runtimes, which are unusual approaches
- Problematic awards table, a mix of indiscriminate and incomplete detail
- Indiscriminate list of awards and nominations, which seems like a WP:RESUME
- More "official" external links than needed
As a result, I've cut down a lot of unsourced and/or promotional detail in this article. There are numerous reliable sources about the filmmaker to have an encyclopedic article based on such sources and written intentionally for an encyclopedic tone. Here are a few:
- Lucy Walker: documentaries from the school of hard knocks
- Lucy Walker, Blindsight
- Profile: Lucy Walker - director of The Crash Reel
- British Women Film Directors in the New Millennium, pages 67-72
- Filmmaker: Take better care of our veterans
- ‘Crash Reel’ Documentarian Lucy Walker Knows Where She’s Going
- Interview: Lucy Walker, director
