Mantua was an island settlement first established about 2000 BC

[edit]

This gives the impression that Mantua dates from some 4000 years ago, or 1500 years before Rome, which is highly unlikely. Anyway, the two sources given for the statement can both be read online and neither confirms the date 2000 BC, or indeed even mentions it. I propose to remove the statement.METRANGOLO1 (talk) 11:40, 22 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

New copy edit request

[edit]

Meaning unclear: "Mantua was subsequently fought between the first and second Punic wars against the Romans, ...."

Does "fought" mean contested or fought over? If so, "against the Romans" is odd since there were two sides in those wars, Rome and Carthage.

Or does it mean Mantua fought against the Romans between the wars? If so, "was" should be deleted and the "between" phrase should be after "against the Romans" to reduce confusion. Billfalls (talk) 22:54, 7 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
