It appears there were two Max Langes who were chess masters who were almost contemporaries. Like the two Larry Evanses in our own time.--Jrm2007 (talk) 06:42, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]


There were, of course, 2 Max Langes, but not exactly contemporaries - rather father and son. Max Lange the younger was the go player (with Ed Lasker). Little Max was born in 1883 and moved to Japan in 1920. As you could read in my article on Chumleys, Lange died in the great earthquake that struck Japan in 1923. Max Lange, the younger, had written one book in 1914 entitled, "Das Schachspiel, und seine strategischen Prinzipien," which attempted to apply mathematical principles to the understanding of chess.
