[edit]Does "Metropolitan Fresno" actually exist? Honestly.
- The article is completely unreferenced.
- I can't find any trace of either "Metropolitan Fresno" or "Greater Fresno" and the word census on any Federal government site.
- I see a mention of the Fresno-Madera, CA CSA on the Table of United States Combined Statistical Areas, but it's only a redirect to Fresno, California. OTOH, this sounded incorrect to me, so I've changed the redirect to go to Fresno County, California instead.
- According to the Table of United States Combined Statistical Areas, the CSA simply consists of the Fresno, CA MSA and the Madera, CA MSA. (Note that the MSAs though, are only redirects to the related county articles).
- The communities in Madera County, California all describe themselves as being in the Madera, CA MSA, not the Fresno-Madera, CA CSA.
- No federal-level references are given for the population stats, either here, at the Table of United States Combined Statistical Areas, or at California census statistical areas. And to make it worse, they don't match. That last article, though, gives us a hint: the Fresno-Madera, CA CSA population may simply be the sum of the populations of Fresno County, California and Madera County, California.
- I can't find anything on WP outside of this one editor's contribution that refer to the Fresno-Madera, CA CSA as either "Metropolitan Fresno" or "Greater Fresno."
- The Madera County, California article's only references to Fresno are as an adjacent county.
Why do we need to jam the two counties together? And why then give that combination a name that isn't used anywhere else? Unless some refs are added to show that there really is a non-marketing entity named "Metropolitan Fresno" or "Greater Fresno," I think this isn't adding anything to WP.
In the meantime, given that the article currently claims that "Metropolitan Fresno" is just a term for the Fresno-Madera, CA CSA and that Fresno-Madera, CA CSA doesn't even have an article of its own, I'm making the two match. Dori ❦ (Talk ❖ Contribs ❖ Review) ❦ 05:22, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
Update
[edit]- User:Moalli reverted my change, but without any discussion here or on his talk page.
- He did add what I guess he thought were references (see below): a link to the census Web site and its population estimates search pages; a link to a Fresno-area Chamber of Commerce; an IRS page referring to the city of Fresno as "Metropolitan Fresno"; and a link to a University of California project which described itself as the "California Subject Matter Project (CSMP) is a statewide network of subject-specific professional development programs for teachers"—none of which strike me as actual third-party sources on anything.

[edit]
- As it's apparantly important to this editor that this page exist (although no reason has been given to why), I figured I'd start trying to turn it into the Fresno-Madera, CA CSA article, which actually does have a reason to be. When it's in a little better shape, the next step is to get the actual page (now a redirect) deleted, and then this page renamed to that.
- User:Moalli, if you're reading this, how about helping instead of just reverting? Dori ❦ (Talk ❖ Contribs ❖ Review) ❦ 09:51, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
