Disambiguation?[edit]

I am not sure that the Michael J. Cohen (b. 1929) in the Library of Congress Name Authority File is the same Michael Cohen that this article is about. The LCNAF record points one to http://www.ecopsych.com/mjcohen.html, which is clearly a Michael Cohen who is both a writer and a musician. However, the extensive publications list makes no mention of the three albums listed in this article. Does anyone know, or can verify, if these are indeed the same person? To find more about the LCNAF record, look here http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/no2002058394.html and here http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n86858474.html Morskyjezek (talk) 02:56, 23 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've updated the authority record and birth dates to reflect http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n99043759. This seems like a more likely candidate for this person, given the list of other albums and discography offered by AllMusic at [1]. See also discogs [2]. Still questions about this, though, and it seems major authorities (including Library of Congress, Smithsonian, WorldCat) may not have complete information. Edit of 30 April 2014 suggests dates of 1951 to 1997. Comment suggests that the editor knew Michael Cohen, but no documentation provided. The LCNAF record b. 1951 does not match, but these dates seem much more likely. Morskyjezek (talk) 19:35, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The latter dates are confirmed at http://masteradrian.wordpress.com/2012/11/29/this-day-in-gay-history-november-28/ Unfortunately, still no reliable entry , or at least not a matching one, in LCNAF or other bibliographic authorities. Morskyjezek (talk) 19:45, 10 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The dates of 1/24/51 to 11/28/97 are almost certainly inaccurate. Brianjcohen (talk) 23:21, 15 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

1951 does appear to be an accurate birth year; see profile of Cohen in In Touch (October 1974, vol 2, no 1, p. 22); restored. Other dates are questionable but seem plausible. Morskyjezek (talk) 12:20, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I know the 11/28/97 date is wrong is because my father's name was Michael Cohen, and he died on that date. My father is not this person. I believe someone found my father's death record and published it as this musician's death date, presumably because the birth year lined up, and assumed it was the same person. Either 11/28/97 is wrong or it's an extraordinary coincidence. Brianjcohen (talk) 16:44, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Today I returned and removed the 1997 death date. As I mentioned back in 2018 it's certainly possible this musician was born in 1951 and I suppose it's possible he died in 1997, but clearly the Internet just decided that my dad's death in 1997 was of this person. Nobody seems to believe me, so here is my dad's grave, which includes a snippet of his obituary and details on his parents' graves. It's just not the same person as this article's musician. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/237490279/michael-cohen — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brianjcohen (talkcontribs) 12:57, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
