5x expansion will not be achieved, and the nominator's course has ended.

  • ... that Voltaire wrote a science fiction novella about an alien visiting Earth named Micromégas?
    • ALT1:... that ...? Source: "You are strongly encouraged to quote the source text supporting each hook" (and [link] the source, or cite it briefly without using citation templates)

  • Unfortunately, this does not meet the core requirement for DYK, which is that it be new or five-times expanded within the last seven days. The article is not new, as it has existed since 2004, and its recent expansion is only about two-times expanded, from 3587 B (610 words) readable prose size before to 7127 B (1193 words) readable prose size now.
In addition, the article has two unaddressed maintenance notices at the top related to sourcing. The two newly added sections also have some tone problems – they read more like student essays than the expected phrasing of a Wikipedia article. There are also some appearances glitches such as the inclusion of "[edit][edit]" in two section headers. Wasted Time R (talk) 02:19, 14 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Alank202, while it will require a great deal of work to increase the article from the original 3587 prose characters to 17935 prose characters, you may still be working on the article for your class, which ends next month. (You would also need to address the maintenance notices and work on the prose per the original reviewer.) If you don't think you'll be able to do this, let us know and we'll close the nomination now; otherwise, please let us know your plans for the article. Many thanks. @Wasted Time R and BlueMoonset: The nominator hasn't edited since the day of the nomination, and given that they were unable to respond to pings and talk page messages along with how the course is close to ending, it is becoming more unlikely that they will ever return. As such, the nomination may need to be closed as abandoned unless the are able to come back. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 00:12, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Narutolovehinata5: Yes, I've seen that too. For what it's worth, one of the articles worked on by a different student during this course, Antonio Manetti, does qualify for DYK. Indeed it's been expanded 12x and, on the surface at least, it looks to me like they did a good job and it is DYK worthy. But it has not been nominated. Maybe that student could be notified of the opportunity? Wasted Time R (talk) 01:26, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The class ends on December 12, according to the Wiki Edu page, so if nothing happens by then, I'd certainly be in favor of closing this nomination as unsuccessful. BlueMoonset (talk) 01:30, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

information Note: Nominator is a WikiEd student editor for the Fall 2020 term at University of Chicago. (course link) The course ends on December 13, 2020.

I will be expanding the article and resolving the various issues over the next two days, but I am unsure of whether I will reach the eighteen thousand characters necessary for the successful nomination. Sorry! Alank202 (talk) 22:08, 6 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Note: as of the edits early on 10 December, the article has attained 11737 prose characters. This leaves 6198 to go to reach a fivefold expansion. BlueMoonset (talk) 06:15, 10 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Alank202 has responded on their talk page that they do not intend to expand the article further. Unfortunately, that means that it does not meet the 5x expansion requirements, and the nomination does not succeed. Marking for closure. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:51, 16 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
