New Mexico Oil:

[edit]

Although this province only extends into New Mexico a tiny bit, NM has the second largest reserves of states in the list. There are large oil reserves in NW New Mexico, which are not included in this province or basin or field, or whatever it is called. This should be reflected in the numbers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.253.26.4 (talk) 19:11, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bad title :

[edit]

The title is nonsense. This is not a oil field but a region of north america with several oil- and gas- bearing basins, each of them with hundreds of oil fields.

Strong agreement. Request comments for a move to "Mid-Continent Oil Province". Cheers Geologyguy 15:14, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hearing no objections for a week, I will make this move now. Geologyguy (talk) 17:20, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The title is an anachronism: 100 years ago, oil men referred to broad producing areas as "fields". But even as an oil-producing province this article makes little sense today, because most modern industry usage would not include the Gulf Coast area in the "Mid-Continent".
It would make most sense to broadedn the scope a bit, and convert the article to cover the oil history of the entire US. Plazak (talk) 14:03, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Unless someone objects, I'll move the article over to History of the petroleum industry in the United States
