The reference file "The Echols File" should be removed as it was created and distrubuted by pedophiles, and as such will have a biased opinion of the subject. Kerusso 23:12, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removing NPOV template

There has been no indication or discussion of what the issue is beyond one link, which has since been removed. Willemslie (talk) 11:43, 28 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sources

[edit]

NONE of the sources have an actual link to the article? I checked two, the newspaper couldn't find the article after a search. Will look more, but this is kind of troubling considering the claims. Dennis Brown - 23:52, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Dennis Brown and @Liz, I came across a source that said the "indecent exposure" was mooning the police but I don't think I cited that particular source though. I suggest updating the article to state "various misdemeanors" instead. The only reason he was in jail was for failing to appear. S0091 (talk) 21:39, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, S0091,
I removed that statement from the articles because the citations that were used either didn't support indecent exposure claim or I could not locate them. Then, when I did a different search, I found a reprinted copy of an article from the Monterey paper saying he was charged with, how should I say this, waving his genitals at some soldiers. So, it was along the lines of mooning, not exposing yourself to a child or family. But it was a newstory that someone had copied and pasted and although it looked very authentic to me, I couldn't see using that page as a reference, so I just reverted myself. Echols denied the accusation by the way, he said his pants slid down in a struggle with the military policy. I'd try to find a better secondary source but it looks like this article may be deleted via AFD so I just put things back the way they were until I tried to "fix" things. It's too bad we don't have more background on him, he sounds like he was a complex, driven person and pretty unique. Just maybe not notable in the way Wikipedia defines "notability". Liz Read! Well, now it looks like this article might be kept so I'll try to refind that reference and see what you think. Liz Read! Talk! 23:36, 13 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I made some additional updates to clarify the indecent exposure charge and cleanuped some of the other statements to align with sources. S0091 (talk) 17:04, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
