Reasons not to delete: I'm not sure I understand the term 'Spammish' but if it means that it's written by those with a commercial interest. I guess there may be some truth in the description. I can't yet claim to improve the article as I intend to start using it shortly, but the article has helped me to have an overview of the product and provides a platform for those in a similar position where review like comments may be posted or posited. I hope the article will develop & improve and will see if I can contribute some grains. Can MindManager's format *.mmap be viewed and/or edited by other software? Tommie 14:13, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes. For instance JCVGantt visualises maps with task information as Gantt charts and edits them. Many other add ins for Mindjet MindManager access and alter the XML database of .mmap file.

You can unzip the .mmap file and you will see it contains several files. One is an XML file which contains the data in the map. There is an open interface to the .mmap file defined in the DevZone: Resources and Information for Developers area of their website. --Ajwilcox 22:09, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Importing To MindManager

To follow up on the question about "viewed and/or edited by other software" we have found MindManager to be a very flexible enterprise creativity tool that has allowed us to generate MindManager Mind Maps from our thematic knowledge generation of documents usin gthe MMAP file format. Once a document's thematic knowledge is extracted using our software we dynamically generate an MMAP file that is then opened by MindManager. The MMAP file contains the thematic based Knowledge Signature of the document as well as the Synopsis, the Detailed Summary, the original document itself, and a Document Navigator so that when you click on a Topic Node you see instantly every paragraph that contains that Topic Node's theme.

But there is more to MMAP file format than its ability to import a file's thematic structure and represent it in a MindManager mind map. Once you are in the mind map you can literally reshape the document by moving the Topic Nodes around and then recreate an entirely new document.

The future for using thematically based mind maps is to allow the user to use the map's Knowledge Signature to conduct advanced queries of the Research Accelerator.

All that and I didn't even mention my company once. Wikipedia Editors will be proud.

Seeking help for revisions to this article

I've recently been working on behalf of Mindjet, the creator of MindManager, to revise this article. In September, Mindjet consolidated its many software offerings, including MindManager, into a new, unified product, also called Mindjet. At the same time, the company transitioned the software to an entirely cloud- and subscription-based business model and also changed their logo. Because of these changes, the article as it currently stands is quite out of date, and it has never been a very good article, regardless.

I've posted my revised draft of this article in my userspace at User:ChrisPond/Mindjet (software). Because the previous article is so out of date and far from WP:MOS, I have rewritten much of it from scratch. To summarize my changes:

• I've revised and substantially shortened the introduction to the article, highlighting only major features of the software.
• I've changed the structure of the article. After the introduction, my revision contains the following sections:

1. "Features" describes the functions of the Mindjet software package.
2. "Development" provides an overview of the history of the software, up to and including the merging of Mindjet's different pieces of software into a single product. In addition, I have moved the screenshot of MindManager 8 from the infobox to this section, where it now serves to document the history of the software.
3. "Reception and awards", which consists of the "Awards" section in the current article, along with information about the critical reception of MindManager/Mindjet. I have also added one new award here.

• I've removed discussion of the various file formats and plug-ins from my revised version. The new Mindjet is entirely cloud-based, so these references are out of date.
• I've updated the information in the infobox to reflect current version numbers and release dates.

Because of my COI with regards to this article, I'm hoping someone could review my rewritten article to be sure that it complies with Wikipedia's standards. If it does, I'm hoping that someone can make the following changes (I think this is the best way to do this, although I'm certainly open to feedback):

1. Replace the current version of the article with the revised version;
2. Move the current "MindManager" article to "Mindjet (software)";
3. Update the logo, which I have uploaded here: here.

Could someone identify similar WP:FA and WP:GA articles to compare?

I'd hold back one acting on these further comments until we have found comparison articles:

My inclination would be to remove/replace the second sentence from the lede, following WP:LEDE.

Hi Ronz, thanks for popping by and taking a look at this! As to articles for comparison—I had some trouble identifying similar software topics in WP:FA and WP:GA when I started drafting this. My main model was Microsoft Security Essentials, which is listed in WP:FA. Maybe other folks can find some other good comparisons.

Can you clarify your thinking about changing the lede? I'm happy to propose a rewording of it, but not sure what you're seeing here that's problematic.

Also, can you give some specifics about what you think might be cut from the Development section? It was trying to hit major milestones for the software without overwhelming, but maybe I didn't quite manage it! I'd also be interested in seeing if other editors agree that the section is too detailed. If that seems to be the consensus, I'd be happy to rework it.

I was hoping you'd get more responses by this time.

WP:LEDE:"The lead serves as an introduction to the article and a summary of its most important aspects." "The lead should be able to stand alone as a concise overview. It should define the topic, establish context, explain why the topic is notable, and summarize the most important points"

So my inclination would be to expand the lede by indicating why the product is notable, and remove the second and third sentences which I don't believe fit the criteria for context or important points. --Ronz (talk) 19:32, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi again Ronz, thanks for clarifying about the changes you'd like to see to lead paragraph—I was thinking you just wanted it shortened instead of changed to better match WP:LEDE. I'll be taking a look at drafting a new version and posting it here for you to look at in the next day or two.

In the meantime, though, I'm wondering if you might be able to help with another small thing. Prior to working on this piece, I was also working on some updates to the article for Mindjet the company. These were largely moved into place by User:Guy Macon, but in reviewing the article just now, it looks like he missed a couple of things—namely, Mindjet's software is still referred to as "MindManager" instead of "Mindjet" in the lead and the infobox. I think these were just an oversight on his part, and not things he thought were problematic, based on our conversation over at Talk:Mindjet. Unfortunately, it looks like Guy Macon is now on a WP break until next year.

By way of summary, I've updated the lead paragraph to provide a broader summary of the Mindjet software package, including its notability. Because the other information that was previously in the lead still seemed relevant, even if not lead-worthy, I moved it to the end of the "Features" section. Addition of screenshot to Mindjet (software) article

I have recently been working on behalf of the company Mindjet to edit this article to reflect the most up-to-date information about their software. Most of these changes were moved into place by User:Silver seren. I now have one other request I'd like to make: adding a screenshot of the most recent version of Mindjet (which I've uploaded here: File:Screenshot_of_Mindjet_for_Windows,_early_2013.png) to the infobox, paralleling other software articles like Microsoft Security Essentials, and giving it the caption "Mindjet for Windows". Proposed Revisons to MindManager Page

Hello, I am a contractor working with Mindjet and I have been asked to update the MindManager page. The page is a few years out of date and needs some significant revisions.

First, the software is no longer called "Mindjet" as the name has been changed back to "MindManager". Thus, the title of the page will need to be changed back to "MindManager". There have been several new versions since this was last edited, so information on the latest version will need to be added as well. In addition to this, ProjectDirector is no longer being advertised for sale (though a version of it is still available through sales reps) so its representation can be reduced. Also, MindManager is no longer marketed heavily as business collaboration software, so references to such should also be deleted. It is now sold as "mind mapping software" with some gearing toward productivity and project management.

Title: MindManager

MindManager is a commercial mind mapping software application developed by Mindjet. The software provides ways for users to visualize information in mind maps and flowcharts. MindManager can be used to manage projects, organize information, and for brainstorming. As of November 2015, MindManager has over 2 million paid users, including notable customers such as Dow, Microsoft, Pfizer, and Cisco. Features MindManager provides ways for users to visualize information using mind maps, and with the release of MindManager 2016 for Windows, now includes flowchart and concept map creation tools. The digital mind maps can be used a “virtual whiteboard” for brainstorming, managing and planning projects, compiling research, organizing large amounts of information, and for strategic planning.

MindManager also has features that allow budget calculations and formulas, Gantt chart views of project timelines, and guided brainstorming. Documents can be attached to mind map topics and viewed within the MindManager application. Links, images, and notes can also be added to mind map topics and viewed and searched in a side panel.

Development

The software that became MindManager was originally developed by Mike Jetter in the mid-1990s while he was recovering from a bone marrow transplant to treat leukemia. Jetter's goal was to develop a program that would overcome the limitations of creating mind maps with pen and paper, such as the inability to easily move items around.

Following his release from the hospital, Jetter decided to sell the software.[7] The software's mind maps were initially based on the method created by Tony Buzan.[8] Over time, however, Mindjet has developed its own style of mind mapping.[9]

The software was originally marketed under the name "MindMan — The Creative MindManager".[10] In 1999, it was rebranded as MindManager.[11] Originally only available for Windows, MindManager expanded to Mac OS X in 2006.[12] In 2011, mobile versions of MindManager were released for both iOS and Android.[13][14] Later that year, Mindjet acquired Thinking Space, an Android-based information mapping application,[15] and Cohuman, a social task management service,[16] which the company developed into a collaborative, cloud-based service to complement MindManager called Mindjet Connect or Project Director.[17] In September 2012, the Mindjet company combined all of its software, including MindManager, Mindjet Connect, and its mobile offerings into a single product, also called Mindjet.[18]

Mindjet moved away from the single-product offering in mid-2013. The stand-alone mind mapping product was again named MindManager, with a more expansive version tailored to large enterprise adoptions called MindManager Enterprise released in 2014. MindManager Enterprise added sharing options including viewing/editing within Microsoft SharePoint. A MindManager mind map viewer also became available with MindManager Enterprise 2016.

MindManager is available for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, and has mobile apps for Android and iOS platforms.[6] As of November 2015, MindManager is in version 16 for Windows and version 10 for Mac.

Reception and awards MindManager has received generally positive notice from reviewers. It was voted the #1 mind mapping software in Biggerplate’s 2015 Mind Mapping annual report.

MindManager 8 received four out of five stars from TechRadar,[19] while MindManager 9 received 3.5 out of 5 stars from PC Magazine and 4 out of 5 stars from Macworld.[20][21] MindManager was chosen as one of the top 5 best mind mapping tools.[22][23]

MindManager also received a number of awards, including "Collaboration Product of the Year" for 2008 by Intranet Journal,[24] a Jolt Productivity award for Design and Modeling tools from Dr. Dobb's Journal,[25] and "Best of CeBIT" in the Personal Software category in 2004.[26] See also Brainstorming List of concept- and mind-mapping software
