Inclusion

[edit]

Being the first Mormon < insert random profession > from < insert random location > is not a notable enough feat on it's own to merit inclusion on this list. It has nothing to do with being from/for/against any particular location on Earth, or any specific secular profession. -- 208.81.184.4 (talk) 21:29, 19 February 2013 (UT

Nowhere is a "random" location, especially not to those who live there - that's xenophobic and rude. This is not an American encyclopaedia. Get used to it.
I intend to add info about Brazil, Canada, Korea and NZ, but no doubt you consider these "random locations". The 19th C. timeline includes US (non-federal) state info from Utah, Illinois & Missouri etc. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.84.1.18 (talkcontribs) 23:33, 19 February 2013‎
I agree that we should not add that so-and-so was the first Mormon <profession> in a particular country or place. I could agree with adding information about Mormon missionaries beginning work in a particular country, but I don't think we need to identify the first <profession> convert or member by name. In the broad scope of Mormon history, missionaries entering a country is a significant event. Being the first <profession> member somewhere is much less so. As 80.84.1.18 objects to the use of the word "random" in my leading comment, I withdraw it; I'm sorry if anyone took offense, as that was not my intent. -- 208.81.184.4 (talk) 22:10, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I understood it to just mean that you weren't criticising the inclusion of any one particular location's details—just that there were several and that there was no connection between the multiple locations and that you thought including this information for all of them—as opposed to just some of them—were problematic. I don't think it was any kind of slur, but even if it was, it was an equal opportunity slur. Good Ol’factory (talk) 21:47, 21 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
