Distance

[edit]

Are you people sure it is just 95km,just asking, not saying that you are wrong.

The Mumbai Pune Expressway is extremely good piece of engineering. However I would like to know what is the time frame till which the toll will be collected?

Also what about the condition of the road which is already existing?

2 hours on a 95km road works out to under 50km/h, which is the speed limit on residential streets (in Canada, at least). An Expressway can't possibly move that slow. Can someone confirm the length and speeds on this Expressway? --LuciferBlack 22:17, 21 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

the conversion between miles to kms is incorrect .. 95 kms should be more than 49 miles at the correct conversion of about 1.6km to a mile

the expressway has a speed limit of 80kmph. and the travel time on the expressway is litle over an hour, however to get from mumbai to pune you have to travel significant distance(about 50kms) before & after the expressway - at much reduced speed.. thus travel time between mumbai and pune is little over 2 hrs.

Mumbai to Pune is 2 hours only from their closest points. I regularly travel back-and-forth, it takes my 4 hours. And if I were to travel from the furthest ends, I can expect to take 5 hours. My expressway speed is 100 kmph; in city its 20. Never measured time from start-to-end of expressway.

Construction

[edit]

"The expressway cost Rs. 1630,00,00,000 (approx. US$ 362 million) to construct." --Are Rupees really counted in decimal groups of thousands, hundreds, hundreds, tens of thousands? Or should that read "Rs. 16,300,000,000"? This sloppy entry makes me suspicious of the veracity of the rest of the data on this page. Other entries on this discussion page make me even more wary.

It is not a sloppy entry. Rupees are counted as follows:
Rs. 1,00,000 is Rs. 1 lakh
Rs. 1,00,00,000 is Rs. 1 crore
So 1630,00,00,000 is Rs. 1630 crore.

turnpike

[edit]

Its proper to use the term turnpike to mean a "tolled expressway" as the defn of the word.

Is this the expressway?

[edit]

Does the image added in this edit really show the Mumbai-Pune expressway? AFAIK the expressway is 6-lane everywhere (not too sure of the hilly regions, but this photograph is clearly not of hilly areas), and the photo shows a 4-lane road. Also, the right carriageway has arrows indicating both a left exit and a right exit. Again, I don't think the highway has a right exit (right from the driver's point of view) anywhere. The dirt road on the left and pedestrians also seem to indicate that this is not the expressway. --Kprateek88(Talk | Contribs) 15:28, 20 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There have been no replies here, so for the reasons mentioned above I have removed the image from the article. --Kprateek88(Talk | Contribs) 15:18, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The image has appeared again. I am removing it for the reasons mentioned above. If someone is very sure that it is indeed the Expressway, please post here. --Kprateek88(Talk | Contribs) 10:51, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

traffic volume typo

[edit]

"The expressway handles about 30,000 PCUs and is designed to handle up to 1,00,000 PCUs."
Is this meant to say 100,000 or 1,000,000 PCUs? --Beeurd (talk) 20:31, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Moving/Renaming to Mumbai Pune Expressway

[edit]

Can we move/rename this article to Mumbai Pune Expressway instead of Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Means removing unnecessary "-" hyphen from article name. KuwarOnline (talk) 11:50, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true.
