– I notice in Template:National Collegiate Athletic Association that the articles about NCAA championships outside of basketball and football have inconsistent naming styles. According to WP:COMMONNAME: "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it generally prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources."

Here are my more specific rationales for the renames.

NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship: If every article about individual tournaments is titled 2017 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Tournament etc., then the main article should also have "Tournament" in the title. There are far more google results for "Women's volleyball" "NCAA Tournament" (150k+) than "Women's volleyball" "NCAA championship" (45k+), which shows that most media outlets use "NCAA Tournament" to refer to this series, such as this 2017 ESPN story, and this 2017 Associated Press story.

NCAA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship: "NCAA Men's Volleyball Tournament" is the more common name for this tournament, as I see in media coverage such as "BYU earns No. 2 seed in NCAA Men’s Volleyball Tournament, could see home-standing UCLA again in Final Four" (Salt Lake Tribune, April 22, 2018). While ESPN.com returns no search results for "National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship", it uses "NCAA men's volleyball tournament" in its WatchESPN streaming service as evidenced in searching "NCAA men's volleyball tournament" site:espn.com.

NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Championship, National Collegiate women's ice hockey championship, and NCAA Division I Softball Championship: Same as with women's volleyball; "NCAA Tournament" has far more association with both terms "men's ice hockey" and "women's ice hockey" than "NCAA Championship." Furthermore, the title National Collegiate women's ice hockey championship already is grammatically incorrect due to the inconsistency in capitalization. In fact, "NCAA Tournament" Softball has over two million google results compared to about 190k for "NCAA Championship" Softball.

- Again, there should be consistency when individual years' tournaments use titles such as 2017 NCAA Division I Softball Tournament and 2018 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament.

List of NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament champions: Should be named List of NCAA Division I men's ice hockey champions to be consistent with similar lists like List of NCAA Division I men's basketball champions, since the tournament names the sport's official collegiate champion. Comments I have no opinion on the underlying question, but here are some points worth considering:
- The championship is both broader and narrower in scope than the tournament. To win the championship, a team will first have to play its regular season, and do well enough to qualify for the championship tournament.
- News media articles during the regular season will mostly be about predicting who will qualify for the tournament rather than who will win the championship, as the media don't want to look too far into the future.
- Category:2017 NCAA Division I women's volleyball season doesn't currently have a summary article.

Oppose proposed move for men's National Collegiate volleyball tournament due to the existence of the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship, first held in 2012. I wouldn't object to a change to the NCAA's official usage of "NCAA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship" (the current page has "Men's" directly after "NCAA") or "NCAA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Tournament". While we're at it, I also don't object to moving the page on the Division III men's volleyball event from "Championship" to "Tournament". Relation to games during the rest of the year[edit]

What relation is there between the tournament and games played during the rest of the year (such as for example the Nebraska Cornhuskers - Omaha Mavericks record game)?
