Founding date and early history

[edit]

An IP I was working with was trying to update the dates and information with respect to the early history of the police department. Unfortunately it isn't really in the format we can accept. I've copied it below to help clean it up, but first I need the information about what book or other publication(Title, author, year, publisher) this came from to complete a citation template so people can check this out. Also note that you shouldn't provide contact info in your edits (phone#, email). -Optigan13 (talk) 04:25, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

THE BIRTH OF CITY HOSPITAL POLICE DEPARTMENT

THE BIRTH OF CITY HOSPITAL POLICE DEPARTMENT

1965 - The New York City Police Department was patrolling the streets and City Hospitals; there were nineteen (19) hospitals then. The Police Commissioner wanted the Police Department to just cover the streets. As a result the Commissioner, with the Mayor and City Personnel Commissioner formed the exam for Special Officers.

First the title, Special Officer Exam for City Hospitals. Second their powers, they were deputized as Special Patrolman and sworn in by the City Chief Clerk of the City of New York. They were given eight (8) hours police power by the Police Commissioner, under Administrative Code 434A.70.The Police Power were under the Police Department 434A-7.2.

1968-1969 There were several Hospital Police Officers arrested by NYCPI1for weapon possession after they, Hospital Police Officers went to the City Police Department Property Clerk to pick up the weapon (gun) as evidence for court cases, and ironically they were arrested. The Police commissioner, and the Mayor of the City of New York appealed to the Governor to give the Hospital Police Officers twenty four (24) hours Peace Officer status (granted March, 24, 1970), under C.P.L. section 27 article 2 which states the following persons designated as Peace Officer New York City Hospital Special Patrolman, appointed by the Police Commissioner pursuant to subdivision C or E section 434A 7.0 section 14-106 of the Administrative code of the City of New York.

1982 - Seventeen (17) years since the birth of Hospital Police Department we are still asking for the same thing, Peace Officer status, but something is very wrong. Because this is 1982 it was learned that Hospital Police Peace Officer status since March 24, 1970. So, what did the state do in 1982, they just changed Hospital Police from section 27 to section 40 of the C.P.L., Special Officers employed by the City of New or by New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation. So. after thirty four (34) years The Hospital Police Department is still being discriminated against
