Fair use rationale for Image:Harry Nilsson Nilsson Sings Newman.jpg[edit]

Image:Harry Nilsson Nilsson Sings Newman.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:50, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like the issue has been resolved. Binksternet (talk) 00:13, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Touring in support of the album[edit]

I have heard conflicting information about touring in support of the album. One source says Nilsson never toured, ever, because of stage fright. However, Frank W. Hoffmann wrote in the Encyclopedia of Recorded Sound that "touring with Nilsson helped [Newman] develop a cult following on college campuses." Billboard wrote an obituary of Nilsson that mentions "speculation" of stage fright, and proposes that "performing was in the blood", but does not discuss any touring or live performances. I am removing any mention of touring until I see better proof of it, such as flyers or such, from 1970, not counting one-offs such as the July 1970 Smothers Brothers TV show guest appearance. In the DVD documentary "Who is Harry Nilsson..." it is stated that Nilsson never did the "usual" live performance/touring that many pop artists did during that time in support of recorded works. Nilsson's second wife mentions a time he performed in Great Britain for a small group of journalists as the only performance she could recall. She mentioned the fact that there was no stage as being a factor that may have contributed to Nilsson being comfortable in the situation.THX1136 (talk) 13:52, 15 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Will finish shortly

GA review (see here for what the criteria are, and here for what they are not)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
a (prose): b (MoS for lead, layout, word choice, fiction, and lists):
"The audio equipment and record review magazine Stereo Review named Nilsson Sings Newman their album of the year.[2] Newman began to record a solo album." - no connection between those sentences. As a reader I would like to know the name of the album (I see his album was released two years earlier...)
Not a big deal, but I would seperate the "Track listing" section into two columns, using {{col-begin}} and so on
    Good prose
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
Ref 4: Should be converted to a cite template, with publisher, accessdate, etc
Do you have a better source as [1]? Blogs are mainly unreliable, but it despends on the author
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars, etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
  7. Overall: Just this.
    Pass/Fail:
  • That Napster blog was written by the Napster admins, so it's at least better than Joe Nobody. I know it is not the best source, but the fact it supports is not very controversial. I'll remove the artist's name and the Napster reference if it is a stumbling block to GA listing.
  • The track listing really has three sections: Side A, Side B (relevant to the original LP), and the extra tracks offered on CD. I would divide it into two sections otherwise. Binksternet (talk) 00:16, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I took out the non-sequitur bit about Newman beginning to record. I tried but could not find exactly when he went to United Western studios to record 12 Songs, but I read that it only took one day in the studio. The album 12 Songs was released April 1970. Unfortunately, without a date or even a month for him in the studio, the little sentence had no home, in my opinion.
  • I fixed the Allmusic reference. Let me know what you think about the Napster blog ref. Binksternet (talk) 00:55, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    • You proofed it is reliable. Napster is actually a music store, but it is reliable as long as it has editorial oversight. Actually I have no problem to let it, as long as it is written by an admin. Also it is only used to mention one artist who was influenced by this album. --♫GoP♫TCN 12:06, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Legacy: Dolenz Sings Nesmith[edit]

Former Monkee Mickey Dolenz in 2021 released an album of former Monkees bandmate Mike Nesmith’s songs, entitled Dolenz Sings Nesmith, which was clearly inspired by Nilsson Sings Newman. The inspiration is absolutely unmistakable, even beyond the album title - the cover art of DSN features the same old car as the NSN cover does. Someone (not me) should add a reference to that album into this entry. 2601:87:8200:45F0:645E:EDA0:538B:2774 (talk) 09:24, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Let's wait for WP:SECONDARY sources to comment on it. Otherwise we would be violating the hard policy WP:No original research. Binksternet (talk) 14:17, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
