How to pronounce Njan Marykutty?
[edit]I speak Malayalam, I noticed non-Malayalis having difficulty in pronouncing Njan Marykutty. Hence adding it here in other Indian languages.
- ഞാൻ മേരി-ക്കുട്ടി (actual)
- /ɲaːn meːɾi-kkuʈʈi/ IPA (to best of my knowledge)
- ञान मेरि-क्कुट्टि (transliteration), as ഞ sound closer to न and ज, ഞാൻ sounds more like नान and जान, than how a north Indian person say ज्ञान.
- ஞான் மேரி-க்குட்டி (perfect)
- ঞান মেরি-ক্কুট্টি (transliteration)
- ඤාන් මේරි-ක්කුට්ටි (perfect) Sinhala script is a sister script of Malayalam script hence perfect transliteration is possible.
- Njaan Marykutty (better transliteration)

@QuickFixMe: I too as a page creator confront the difficulties to pronounce this word and I am not a Malayali or an Indian but I am just a Sri Lankan, so I also don't know the actual pronounciation of this word Njan Marykutty. Abishe (talk) 02:20, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
@Abishe: I am trying to learn IPA, but not good enough. As per Malayalam script page, I think IPA for "ഞാൻ മേരി-ക്കൂട്ടി" is /ɲaːn meːɾi-kkuʈʈi/ someone else need to check it.
- ഞ is /ɲ/ and sounds exactly like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0NIZNgVKaY
- ര is /ɾ/ is the soft R, Tamil has it, and is tough to say for other Indians, it sounds close to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0IYx-WGebg
- ട is /ʈ/ and it is ट in Hindi, sounds close to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xg_MVMixhQY and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evYnoRnbyxo
I dont know Siṁhala, I tried ඤාන් or ඤාඞ් in google translate and it come close to ഞാൻ, especially ඤ and ඤා exactly sounds as ഞ and ഞാ. --QuickFixMe (talk) 00:43, 23 June 2018 (UTC)
@QuickFixMe: I just checked few Malayalam films starting with the word Njan and also included a Malayalam film titled Njaan also known as Njan when I just started to search with the key word randomly. Finally I verified the correct Malayalam pronunciation of the word Njan from an article which was titled as Njan Salperu Ramankutty and its Malayalam translation is this (ഞാൻ സൽപേരു രാമൻകുട്ടി) where the word Njan exactly matches the Malayalam word ഞാൻ in that particular article too. So your doubts could have been cleared right now. Thanks. Abishe (talk) 10:31, 23 June 2018 (UTC)
Njaan Marykutty is a better transliteration, to indicate long-ആ for ഞ. --QuickFixMe (talk) 23:54, 25 June 2018 (UTC)
