"first traversed"
[edit]..by Mallory seems to be not quite right. "to traverse" would mean (imho) to enter a col from one side and go down the other side. Mallory did not. They all entered the col from the east side and went down east, as the west side is really dangerous glacier stuff.. I´m not sure but this, a traverse, was first done by one of the 1930 british expedition members coming from the main Rongbuk glacier, entering North col from the west side and then go down east. But my english is not so good to cover the special meaning of "traversed". --77.11.230.123 (talk) 17:54, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- ..BTW.. the South col which is 3.000ft higher was never (!!) traversed until now. Thousands came from the west, but only nine men came from east and went down east also, so there was no "traverse".. As the Kangshung face (eastern glacier) is a horribly wide angled glacier full of crevasses and extremely endangered by avalanches.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.11.230.123 (talk) 17:59, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
