That would be a great help. What I'm doing (so we have it be consistant) is changing all those built after the merger with Northrop Grumman straight over to NGNN. For those built before the merger (which is probably everything other than the Reagan, Bush, CVNX, DDX, and a few subs), I'm changing the link, but piping it so it still says Newport News Shipbuilding, since that was the name of the company when the ship was delivered (it's the actual delivery date I'm going by). Then I'm refreshing after each one to make sure it goes away from the "what links here" page. Izuko 15:22, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article currently states that this site "was the largest privately owned" before being bought by Northrop - is there a larger corporately owned shipyard? Isn't the right point to focus on whether or not it's the largest non-government owned shipyard, and is it? Manyanswer (talk) 19:00, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

This article is incorrect at the moment. NGSB is a combination of the former Newport News and Ships Systems sectors of Northrop Grumman. However, the content in this article describes Newport News only. This is not controversial as the current format clearly excludes a large portion of "Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding" (Ships Systems) and mistakenly assumes Newport News is the entire Shipbuilding Sector. I have put in a "requested move" to move the content to the appropriate article (Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding Newport News). Following the move, I will rewrite the Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding article to reference the sub-sector articles for Newport News and Ships Systems (Gulf Coast Operations). Missing history[edit]

a) There's no mention of labor strikes and the cosy relationship of the union (PSA) and management b) The sign about "building great ships ..." that was removed by Tenneco, c) The change from a one hour lunch period to a paid 20 min lunch period. This stopped people from going into town to eat "family style" in people's homes. When the lunch business dried up the people sold and NNS bought. Then they went back to one hour lunch periods. d) The spat with the Navy about profits. They either didn't bid or inflated their bids on new submarine construction.
