I disagree with Redrose64's decision to remove the wikilink from England (see edit summary, which says people can click the Oldham link to find out about England), because:

  • in a quick check of a few other articles referring to places, the country was linked in every case. So unless the ones I found were unrepresentative, it's inconsistent to omit the link here.
  • someone who decides they want to read about England will want to go directly to the England article.

Please see WP:OVERLINK, particularly under the heading "What generally should not be linked", where it states "Unless they are particularly relevant to the topic of the article, avoid linking terms whose meaning can be understood by most readers of the English Wikipedia, including ... the names of major geographic features and locations". --Redrose64 (talk) 21:52, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
