Remove tag

[edit]

I removed this insulting tag :

{{cleanup|date=October 2019|reason=It appears that this article is a poor translation of the Russian article.}}

This is not translation - I wrote the entire article myself (as 5.198.10.236 )from the sources given.

As I found it (old version) the article was almost entirely based on a single UNESCO reference, plus some etymological references)

This article is vastly better referenced than the russian one. The content of the article is completely different as well. This article contains a large amount of info that isn't even touched upon in the russion article.

Also the tag :

This article may require copy editing for grammar, style, cohesion, tone, or spelling.

is also complete uncalled for - the article as I wrote it (which is essentially the same as it exists now excluding a few very minor changes) is perfectly readable, in good english, and does not have any serious grammatical issues.

Rewriting (2022)

[edit]

Hi all, I'm currently rewriting this article. What was here was quite good, but the structure was weird and the language needed to be cleaned up. I'm a native English speaker, with interesting in Sakha people and language (and wikipedia really should be using Sakha, but that's a battle for another day), but I unfortunately don't know that much about Olonkhos so I would appreciate any help with this. Some things that need to be done:

  • The history section is excessively long, and it really doesn't contain that much that's necessarily relevant to this page (it's repeating what's available on the Yakut page). Moreover, I'm not sure where to put it. Generally wikipedia order goes: Etymology -> History -> then everything.
  • The etymology section should not contain "related terms." indeed giving derived forms like okonkhohut and onokholoo needs to be here, but not in the etymology section. The Buryat epic claim is quite interesting, and worth somebody exploring further (did the work enter Sakha through Buryat, or vice versa?).
  • Quite possibly, Nyurgun Bootur the Swift should be broken out into its own page.
