The claim that the bomb was entirely filled with mercury fulminate does not seem very plausible. It is also contradicted by our existing ext link at Nieuws Uit Amsterdam, which says that only the horns were filled with that material, as an impact ignition system similar to early naval mines. The sketch at http://www.flickr.com/photos/arnausala/3465244783/sizes/o/ also suggests that the horns are a separate structure from the main explosive compartment.

On the basis of the Nieuws Uit Amsterdam I have modified the claim to include only the horns. Given the era, the main charge was almost certainly black powder, but I suppose it would be original research to say that.

By the way, do any copyright experts know if it would be OK to include this picture: http://www.artchive.com/artchive/g/gaudi/gaudi_sagrada_terrorist.jpg -- 202.63.39.58 (talk) 04:11, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Orsini bomb temporarily exhibited in Amsterdam in 2007 is the Orsini Bomb belonging to the Museu d'Història de Barcelona. It is believed, but not 100% sure, that this Orsini bom was the unexploded one in the Liceo 1893. It should be mentioned that its exhibition in Amsterdam was temporary and that it is kept since 1936 in the Barcelona Museu d'Història de la Ciutat. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.60.174.253 (talk) 20:15, 11 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Contradiction

[edit]

the article claims the device was an IED above. Is it an IED or professionally designed & thoroughly tested also by professionals?
