Are those characteristics of the novel really necessary/relevant for this article? I see there's a sizable section in the article about the novel itself, surely that is enough to avoid spreading these criticisms to its every mention? --illythr (talk) 23:21, 23 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I wondered that myself and asked about it at WikiProject Poland [1]. It would be good to get a source which states that Gogol used the uprising as part of the historical basis for the novel.Volunteer Marek (talk) 01:48, 24 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
