NRHP

The article says that because the bridge was placed on the National Register of Historic Places, If the state wanted to demolish the bridge, it would then be subject to a popular vote. There is no such requirement in the NRHP enabling legislation (which is actually quite weak in terms of protection). If there was a requirement, it would have to have been through state or local landmark designation, or was just done as a popular referendum for this instance. Demolition Date

I wanted to point out the bridge definitely was not demolished in 1995. I moved to east Kennewick in October 1992 and the green bridge was already gone by then. I traveled over the Ed Hendler bridge many times in 1992 and would have certainly noticed it if it had been there.

I am doing some digging to find out what date it was actually demolished and will report back. I believe it was demolished in 1990 or 1991, according to what locals tell me, but I will find out.

I got that 1995 date from the Cable Bridge article, but so far have been unsuccessful in verifying this (or any date whatsoever) via web/news searches. Anything you can find will be helpful. Thanks. howcheng {chat} 18:27, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
