Patasola magdalenaePatasola – monotypic genera are named by their genus – – Maky « talk » 19:09, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 23:05, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
My bad. I was going through a long, long list of fossil primates, and several needed renaming for the reasons given. Normally when the move fails, it's because someone edited the redirect. Sorry for not double-checking before making the request. I withdraw the move request. – Maky « talk » 08:34, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong oppose clearly not considering the usage of "Patasola" in the entirety of the world, not just taxonomy. If you want to delete Patasola, propose it at WP:AFD -- 65.94.43.89 (talk) 04:55, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Monotypic genera are usually at the genus title, and this is a documented at WP:MONOTYPICFAUNA and WP:MONOTYPICFLORA. However (and it's not well documented), when the name of a monotypic genus is ambiguous with other topics, there is a broad precedent for using the binomial to disambiguate. It's not clear that the genus is the primary topic of the term "Patasola", so disambiguate with the binomial Patasola magdalenae. If there is no primary topic for "Patasola", make it into a disambiguation page (if the base title is a dab, Patasola magdalenae should still be preferred as a natural disambiguation for the animal over Patasola (genus)) Plantdrew (talk) 05:42, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. WP:MONOTYPICFAUNA is a guideline, not a commandment, and this is one of the cases where occasional exceptions apply. As a monotypic genus, "Patasola magdalenae" is identical to Patasola (genus), and the binomial is a more natural disambiguator than a parenthetical. It is also very likely that the genus name comes from the South American myth (the fossil is from Colombia), and thus Patasola, the myth, would and should be the WP:Primary topic. --Animalparty-- (talk) 07:35, 26 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
