File relates to Patrick O'Keeffe's receipt of a military service pension in respect of his service with the Irish Volunteers for part of the periods between 1 April 1916 and 31 March 1919 and with the IRA for part of the periods between 1 April 1919 and 30 June 1922 and with the National Forces for part of the periods between 1 July 1922 and 30 September 1923. Applicant joined the Irish Volunteers in 1914. Following the Easter Rising he was interned until December 1916. Claims that in 1917 he held the position of Secretary of Sinn Féin. Mentions that between September and October 1919 he was held in Mountjoy Prison. O'Keeffe enlisted in the National Forces at Potobello Barracks on 13 July 1922 and resigned on the 14 August 1923 at the rank of Commandant. States that he held the position of Deputy Military Governor, Mountjoy Prison between his dates of enlistment in the National Forces. Major Ó'Riain states that he was awarding O'Keeffe the rank of Captain as that was the rank awarded to Military Prison Officers.
