Copyright problem removed
[edit]Prior content in this article duplicated one or more previously published sources. Hello again,
I have been flagged as a COI editor on this page, so cannot make any edits. Therefore, I would greatly appreciate if another user could help with the removal of the flagged messages on this page so it can continue to be improved. I'm not sure why I was flagged as a COI - I am not being paid to edit this wikipedia page, as previously mentioned I am a masters student who has been using the page for research. And as someone who has previously worked on projects involving the artist, was aware of which sources to use when I saw the page needed improving. I have now lost my right to edit this page, as every time I do, another message seems to pop up.
I think it is unfair that this page, which has been a great resource of information, has these COI and Copyright messages. The above comment states the Copyright issues were resolved, and I since also explained the misunderstanding with the COI reference.
I have already received some helpful commentary below, so am continuing to use this talk page in order to help move things forward.
Many thanks,

I am a masters student that has recently written about and researched artist Philippe Parreno. I used this page a lot and found it a very useful source of information. Since certain elements of the page have been flagged, I have noticed that huge amounts of information have been deleted rather than edited to adhere to guidelines, and that any edits I have tried to make to improve have been undone and criticised and I have been flagged as a COI - although I am not being paid to edit this page - can someone please explain?
My first suggested edits would be to re-introduce the extensive press section, removing external links if they proved to be too extensive (I originally included these links to try and improved the page, after I used them for research). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arty8731 (talk • contribs) 13:57, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

[edit]The information which you wanted to add to the article appears to have been a chronological listing of reports about the subject. I think you'd agree that it would be rather difficult to tell a coherent story about anyone using only a listing of headlines and dates. Sure, you may have a semblance of what is going on at different times by looking at these headlines, but headlines themselves aren't designed to impart very useful information. Their purpose is to grab attention, as well as impart only the outward, initial idea of what may have occurred. For example, one of the headlines you added: To apply art to political resistance is always a bit complicated gives us a warning about the misapplication of art for political resistance, but do we know anything beyond that? Is this something that Parreno was saying, and if they said it, does that mean they agree with it? Why do they agree with it, and what is it about that misapplication which is wrong? By only listing headlines, there is a world of information which is being omitted.
This is one of the main reasons why Wikipedia content requirements discourage the placing of what you've added, which was essentially a directory of articles on Parreno (See WP:NOTDIRECTORY.) Merely being true, or even verifiable, does not automatically make something suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia. Articles should not become a complete exposition of all possible details, but rather, a coherent summary of accepted knowledge regarding their subjects. If you decide in the future that you would like to make the effort to read any one of those articles, paraphrase them, and place the paraphrased, summarized information here on the talk page for a reviewer to consider adding to the article, that would be a treasure for Wikipedia, and most appreciated. We look forward to the possibility of working with you and your submissions at your earliest convenience. Regards, spintendo 21:09, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you for the deatiled response, this has been super helpful in understanding why the content was removed (more helpful than the user who simply deleted the whole section with no real commentary).
Having used many of these articles for research purposes, I will endeavour to paraphrase and post on the talk page.
Again, much appreciated advice as I am new to editing Wikipedia, since I have mainly used it for research. Arty8731 (talk) 13:11, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
