About the 1901 photo

[edit]

It shows a square green to the left of the player, who is teeing off. This is historically significant and not a silly comment. The picture does not show Pinehurst #2, as that was built after 1901, so this is probably Pinehurst #1 or even a predecessor. --84.177.14.109 01:50, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, if that's true then can you provide any reference to support it? —Doug Bell talk 02:16, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Please check the source attribution of the image. --84.177.20.48 11:02, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, well, I don't happen to have the Golf USGA Bulletin May 1901 edition readily available. Would you mind adding to the talk page the complete relevant description of the photograph? —Doug Bell talk 11:18, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I will ask the uploader to type in the article. But I have no reason to doubt his attribution, as it was the norm that inland courses built around 1900 had square greens, cop bunkers and other artifical features that from today's point of view are frowned upon. --84.177.37.149 11:28, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
