Hey, this is my first wikipedia article post. It was originally one of my 9th grade World History reports, just edited a bit. There are probably some mistakes with wiki-format and grammer, so if you see any edit them. Shoe1127 23:45, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

His names aren't Pinzon: his names hare Martin Alonso Eanes and Vicente Eanes. Pinzones was a nick. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.34.60.116 (talkcontribs)

The commentary before this is untrue, inaccurate, malicious and unfounded. In addition, there is no literature 12 which credited. Miguel Angel fotografo. 88.12.170.122 (talk) 13:14, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have found no information to suggest this error. All my research has pointed to the validity of the name. Please send me some links to your info so i can make my article more accurate if need be. Shoe1127 03:04, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What a bad article! The section about the glory resembles more a discussion page. This needs cleaning.

Wow. This article is really poor, no offense to the high school student who wrote it. This is what gives Wikipedia its bad rap. Exactly how do these two brothers -- being notable explorers and governors, yes -- rank "among the world's most significant people?" And how is their influence "still felt today" exactly? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.86.142.42 (talk) 19:34, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tone

[edit]

Adding tone tag to this article. The article has unsubstantiated information and needs a lot of attention and extra work. The tone is a little too laudatory. --Polylerus (talk) 16:22, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yup. A high school report is not a good way to start an encylopedia article. Also, the cited sources are all popularizing sources, roughly what you'd expect a teenager interested in history to use, not what any scholar would use.
The linked article in es-wiki actually looks quite good; I'd propose to throw this out & start over by translating that. I'll leave at least a few days for anyone to raise objections, though. - Jmabel | Talk 05:27, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent work, Jmabel. This article is greatly improved through your efforts. --Polylerus (talk) 16:34, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

While copyediting the article, I found a few places where I have queries about the text:

  • "(generally considered to constitute the discovery of the Americas by Europeans)" - don't know about the "generally considered", but the Vikings were Europeans and did get to the Americas.
  • What is the Spanish text doing at the beginning of one of the notes to the lead ("Dentro del...")?
  • "generally credited with the discovery of Brazil" - this contradicts the lead of History of Brazil
  • "the father would have two illegitimate children" - this should be "would have" if the children were born after Martin returned, but "had" if they were born before; not sure which is correct.
  • "Garcí Fernández" - not García?

On the third, there is Alternative theory of the European discovery of Brazil. I have no expertise or opinion on this.radek (talk) 07:43, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Neither do I, but it does seem from that article that "generally considered" is too strong, as there are even two earlier claims. Ucucha 07:46, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The discoverer of Brazil was Vicente Yáñez Pinzon, is a fact that since most of the scientific community recognizes, reached the mouth of the Amazon river months before Cabral. MiguelAngel fotografo (talk) 22:49, 16 January 2010 (UTC) PD. translate by Google.[reply]
