Board game reference removed
[edit]While I'm not usually an deleter, I have removed the the following uncited statement because it seems far too tangentinal for the introductory paragraph:
- Pioneer Square has a space in the Here & Now edition of Monopoly by Hasbro.

Maps
[edit]Do we really need such a large locator map? It seems to take up an amount of space disproportionate to the information it provides. - Jmabel | Talk 08:31, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Gay Seattle?
[edit]Someone who is knowledgeable about the subject should add a section on the importance of Pioneer Square in Seattle's GLBT history. The importance of Seattle as a site of Gay bars and clubs is partly discussed in Gary Atkins' book, Gay Seattle: Stories of Exile and Belonging, published in 2003.Chesterct (talk) 03:34, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
Pioneer Place Park?
[edit]Should we fork out a separate article for Pioneer Place Park? ---Another Believer (Talk) 05:21, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
- I don't think the park itself is notable or has enough information for a substantial article. The totem pole and pergola are, along with the adjacent Pioneer Building. SounderBruce 05:31, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
- I'm not even sure Pioneer Place exists anymore on paper, since it was absorbed into the creatively named Pioneer Square in 1971. SounderBruce 06:38, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
Commons gallery page
[edit]I've built a Commons gallery page specific to the Square and park (as against the larger neighborhood): commons:Pioneer Square Park. Is there some reasonable way to link that from here? I think it's pretty interesting, especially for the enormous number of high-res scans from the late 19th and early 20th century. - Jmabel | Talk 05:52, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
Davidson Galleries fire, 2024
[edit]Hey everyone!
Gotta be honest, I'm swimming in a pool for the confounded on this one. I attempted to add the January 2024 Davidson Galleries fire to the Pioneer Square article but it was removed. Please see the diff here - [1]. Since the revisions were the first time for both the reverting editor and myself to edit this article, maybe we're both out of our element, but if not...
...the summary was "fails WP:NEVENT, affecting only one building is not worth mentioning in an article about the neighborhood as a whole".
However, the edit is easily qualified as notable via WP:NEVENT and the inclusion is not just about the fire or one building, but the crucial artwork losses of that fire in a neighborhood known for its art galleries.
Here's how I believe it qualifies as pertinent to the page and achieves, if not surpasses, notability standards :
- Loss took place in Pioneer Square
- Loss was at a long residing/respected art gallery in Pioneer Square - [2]
- The Square is a known to be packed with art galleries
- Reported loss or damages of 100 artworks
- The pieces include works created by Goya, Picasso, Rembrandt, and Gen-Xer's art god, effin' M.C.Escher
- Covered by a vast amount and array of local, national, and international sources - simple search but here's an ArtNet ref for example - [3]
Plenty of connection/context and if all that doesn't check the boxes of WP:NEVENT, what would?
So, asking for others to pitch in with their thoughts, as one does on a talk page. As I mentioned in my summary edit, I'm all for moving this notable event to a better section (create an Art Gallery section?). There is a slight mention at the Arts in Seattle page so expand there?
As for spinning off to a "2024 Davidson Galleries fire" page - probably not because unless more information comes out on restoring some of the damaged works, or there's a large insurance claim or issue, or it turns out the fire was intentional, or holy hell, a Michelangelo, Titian, or Renoir were also lost, there may not be much more to expand on at this time. But WP:CONTINUEDCOVERAGE is not enough to keep it from the page, either.
Thanks for the input!

- Additional Seattle Times source from February 2024 that does a deeper dive into the fire, the gallery, and the art gallery scene of Pioneer Square.[4]
