Article name[edit]

The name of this article has a bit of a history. It was started on 22 June 2004 by User:Monedula under the article name of Quadricycle. The content was moved to Quadracycle (Human powered) by me on 5 December 2008. This move was a result of a talk page discussion that started because information on European motorised quadricycles was added to the pedal-powered quadracycle information. The decision was made then to turn Quadricycle into a disambiguation page and move the motorised information to Motorised quadricycle. I chose the title Quadracycle (Human powered) at that time, because I believed the spelling with an "a" instead of an "I" was the most prevalent. The article was then moved again to its present title Quadricycle (human-powered vehicle) by User:The Man in Question on 24 June 2009, without discussion or an edit summary to explain why the move was made.

Subsequently the word "quadracycle" throughout the article was changed to "quadricycle" even when it was part of a company name. The company names have since been rectified.

Since the move I have completed sourcing references on the names used for this class of human-powered four wheeled vehicles by past and present manufacturers and added that information to the article along with over thirty refs. I think it can bee seen from that section that there is no agreement on what these vehicles should be called and in fact I have catalogued 15 different terms applied by manufacturers.

What is clear, however, is that the term quadricycle (with an "i") is very much a minority term and that quadracycle (with an "a") is the most commonly used term and has been for more than 150 years.

This background all leads me to suggest that the article should not be named after the less used and less well-known term Quadricycle. The Wikipedia guidelines on article naming unambiguously indicates that articles should "Use the most easily recognized name". Therefore, based on the guidelines and the research now incorporated in the article, I propose that the article be renamed Quadracycle (human powered vehicle).

Since this is obviously a contentious issue I would like to hear from other editors on this matter. - Ahunt (talk) 22:53, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Since it has been a week since this was posted, with no objections, I will proceed. - Ahunt (talk) 18:02, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nomenclature[edit]

The question has been asked by User:Thumperward's insertion of an OR tag, as to whether this section is WP:OR, with the edit summary examples seem hand-picked. The manufacturers that use these terms is well referenced in detail and the list contains every manufacturer that is known, so it as inclusive as I could make it and not hand-picked to make a point or push one nomenclature over another. If totalling up which manufacturers use which nomenclature is OR, then it is OR, but it is no different than saying that a particular manufacturer makes six models by counting the models on their listing page, when they don't specifically say they make six models. This section was created as a result of the talk page section above when the article was moved multiple times based on one editor or another's perception that quadricycle or quadcycle or quadracycle was the prevalent term and therefore should be the article title. Since previous consensus has been overruled by the latest article move, then perhaps this section under discussion is not needed in the article and should be moved here to the talk page instead? - Ahunt (talk) 18:23, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lacking any discussion on this issue in the past four days I am going to propose that since this is an exhaustive list and the extent of OR is limited to counting up manufacturers, which is less OR than is, say, metric conversions which are permitted on Wikipedia, the OR tag be removed. I'll wait seven days and see if there is any discussion. - Ahunt (talk) 13:23, 6 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay the lack of objection here constitutes a consensus, so I will remove the tag. - Ahunt (talk) 22:39, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Doctor[edit]

A popular culture section should be added, explaining that The Doctor invented the quadricycle in the episode "The Bells of Saint John." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.41.140.22 (talk) 22:43, 17 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

From WP:IPCEXAMPLES#Good_and_bad_popular_culture_references "When trying to decide if a pop culture reference is appropriate to an article, ask yourself the following:
  1. Has the subject acknowledged the existence of the reference?
  2. Have multiple reliable sources pointed out the reference?
  3. Did the any real-world event occur because of the cultural element covered by the reference?
If you cannot answer "yes" to at least one of these, you are just adding trivia."
I'd say items 1 and 3 are negative. I leave item 2 for you to demonstrate. -AndrewDressel (talk) 02:22, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Speed[edit]

Does anyone have any credible information on the speed different quadracycles can attain? I know it would depend on the strength of the rider to some degree. I'm just looking for some kind of data on the average, or recommended speeds for various types of quadracycles. Thanks. Jofurson (talk) 19:27, 18 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have some data from our own measurements on our website, but I haven't seen a reference of sufficient quality to add to this article. - Ahunt (talk) 00:44, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Children's Toy Pedal Cars[edit]

Pedal Car redirects to this page, which seems to indicate that Wikipedia has no page for children's pedal cars - as in toys built to resemble full-size cars but typically only being large enough for one child. These are still made today, although electric versions are now more common, but in the past they were a top-end toy that many a small person longed for and a lucky few got. Stub Mandrel (talk) 17:46, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That is true, we don't seem to have an article on children's pedal car. Looks like one could be written on that topic, if refs can be found. - Ahunt (talk) 17:51, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
