On the evaluation section

[edit]

The evaluation section of this article, while remaining accurate for the most part, though a bit sloppy, is tarnished by one false claim, that Publilius was the first plebeian to be elected consul. This statement, which seems to be a major part in evaluating the career of Publilius in this section, is patently false, as the first certified plebeian consul was Lucius Sextius Lateranus in 366 BC, who was a major agitator for the rights of the plebeians and served as tribune of the plebs, a position that could only be held by a plebeian, for the previous ten years. Since then plebeians, though with some interruption, served in the consular office somewhat regularly.
