The 24th Tank Corps claimed the destruction of 84 tanks, 106 guns, the killing of 12,000 axis soldiers and the capture of almost 5,000 more in this operation.

These numbers sound completely unbelieveable. I find it difficult to believe they even had enough ammunition to do this, led alone the capability. Notably the capture numbers seem rediculous, considering they were well behind German lines and were eventually surrounded and destroyed themselves. If they captured 5000 Germans, where did they capture them to?

Does anyone have a German account of this battle?

Hi - the numbers are of course not correct, that's why the article says 'claimed'. ;-) Overclaiming was rife. In terms of the POWs however, the Tank Corps engaged in two or three battles on the way to Tatsinskaya, and would have taken POWs from them, and these POWs could have been sent back to their lines.
The article also lacks any quantitative information about the Soviet losses in this raid. It is essential in any article about a battle to at least estimate the losses suffered by both sides. I hope this information will be added soon. Balcer 18:18, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi - I'll add what I can find, but it is not easy to do so, since the Soviets were probably less keen on publicising their losses. Andreas 08:59, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have changed the losses to read 72 - as highlighted in Beevor's book User:Fat Dave 16 Feb 2011 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.166.182.163 (talk) 15:14, 16 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
