Ramphocelus ignescens LESS.?

[edit]

@Aa77zz:, @Jimfbleak: Édouard Traviès illustrated a species Ramphocelus ignescens LESS. (Ramphocéle flamboyant) in 1849 in Dictionnaire universel d'histoire naturelle. This name is apparently not in use anymore. Does it stand for Ramphocelus nigrogularis nowadays? R. flammigerus (which is called flamboyant in French) looks quite different to me. --Kuhni74 (talk) 11:06, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes - Tanagra ignescens Lesson 1830 (Plate 24 in Lesson's Centurie Zoologique here) appears to be a junior synonym of Ramphocelus nigrogularis (Spix, 1825) (masked crimson tanager) See: Sclater, P.L. (1886). Catalogue of the Passeriformes or Perching Birds in the Collection of the British Museum. Fringilliformes: Part 2. Catalogue of the Birds in the British Museum. Vol. Volume 11. London: Trustees of the British Museum. p. 701. {{cite book}}: |volume= has extra text (help) - Aa77zz (talk) 12:01, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, thank you! I added the synonyms in Masked crimson tanager, may ask you to check that? --Kuhni74 (talk) 13:08, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
