Translation constraint[edit]

This description and illustration fail to indicate the usual translation constraint: either a groove & shoulder structure, or a thread, nut, and washer mechanism, to keep the shaft from sliding in the cylinder. It is also possible to avoid translation, if both parts of the joint are constrained by some other mechanism.
