"He attended high school in Pendlebury and Salford"

[edit]

I am a Pendlebury resident and just about know the district as good as anyone can. To begin with, this doesn't make sense at all. If he attended Manchester Grammar School, then surely that was his only 'high school' - we didn't call them 'high schools' back then, just 'secondary schools' whether they were just that or grammar schools for those who had passed their 11-plus. Back to this 'Pendlebury' high school business. Robert Powell is just about two years my senior (b. June 1944 - me b. July 1946). He most definitely did not attend my 'high/secondary school' (me 1957-62) which was (and still is) the only high/secondary school in Pendlebury. That school is currently known as the Swinton High School. It was previously known as 'Pendlebury High School' (until 1988) and before that (late '60s-early '70s?) Cromwell Road Secondary Modern School with the boys' and girls' schools being separate. Maybe someone is getting their 'Pendles' mixed up and he actually attended a school (high, junior or infants) in Pendleton rather than Pendlebury. The former is post code M6 and formed part of the old city of Salford (pre-1974). The latter (post code M27) became part of the current Salford area in 1974 having previously been within the Swinton and Pendlebury district. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daft old ratbag (talkcontribs) 22:43, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is that seriously the best picture we can get?

[edit]

That is an ATROCIOUS picture. Firstly, it distractingly features several other people, secondly it's taken from quite a distance, and thirdly Mr. Powell is in motion and thus his facial features are completely blurred out, to the extent that one cannot actually identify that man as Robert Powell. There HAS to be a better picture than that out there. I bet at least one of the films he acted in is now in the public domain, surely we could use a still from one of those? Also a picture from the height of his acting career would be a lot more relevant, IMHO. 1.157.95.133 (talk) 04:35, 5 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Came here with the same question. In addition to all of the above, it looks like someone emerging from a courthouse after being found Not Guilty on a serious charge. GrindtXX (talk) 23:05, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
