"Fellows of the Royal Society of Edinburgh"

[edit]

Most of the pages that link here are articles on Fellows, and a good many of those link through FRSE (piped or directly), so I think it facilitating to put "Fellows of the Royal Society of Edinburgh" in bold near the top. This allows those unfamiliar with "FRSE" as a title, running across it in an article, to click the link and quickly grasp its meaning. ENeville 21:37, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Notable fellows

[edit]

We need some sort of criteria for the list of notable fellows. I think having a wikipedia article isn't enough to be "notable".

I don't think being a university Vice-Chancellor is enough by itself, either, especially compared with the Nobel laureates etc on the list. I've removed Brian Lang and Muir Russell, neither of whom have noteworthy intellectual achievements to their names (Russell was a civil servant and Lang was a failed social anthropologist). —Preceding unsigned comment added by KarenSutherland (talkcontribs) 20:03, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect to nowhere

[edit]

I think it's poor that titles like "New Philosophical Journal" redirect here and are not received with any information. Redirects should be meaningful. In any event, that journal (early 19th C.) was significant in its day, and its founder and editor Robert Jameson was significant in promoting geology. Number of Fellows

[edit]

In his contribution of 13:28 23 July 2017, TiMike asserted in the first introductory paragraph that "As of 2017, it has more than 1,660 fellows", but sadly gives a link to the list of fellows for the Royal Society (of London), not the Royal Society of Edinburgh. We could revert to the previous figures, which used a newspaper article as a reference. However, those figures might not be any more accurate, while certainly being more out-of-date. The best answer, I think, is to ask the Royal Society of Edinburgh to correct this themselves, which I will do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Neil J Ross (talkcontribs) 20:25, 15 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
