Niagara

[edit]

The article currently states that the RWF "sailed for Canada in early May 1814, ...[and] gained the Battle Honour Niagara for their repulse of an American sortie into British territory." But according to this page (not a reliable source, I realize, but better than nothing, which is what we have now), the RWF was present in Canada as early as December 1813 and participated in the Capture of Fort Niagara, for which, according to that article, the Battle Honour Niagara was awarded. Does anyone have a reliable source to straighten out this chronology?--ShelfSkewed Talk 18:24, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Further comment: The current chronology would make sense if the battle involved was the Battle of Lundy's Lane (aka The Battle of Niagara Falls) in July 1814, but the RWF is not mentioned in the Order of Battle section of the Lundy's Lane article.--ShelfSkewed Talk 23:17, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think the current chronology is correct. See, for example, here. The archive of regiments.org is also consistent with this. Also according to regiments.org, the Niagara Battle Honour is for the campaign from July 5 to August 15, 1814, (including the siege of Fort Erie, where 1/6th Foot was engaged), not the capture of Fort Niagara in 1813. Per this diff, I would like to note that the info is not necessarily wrong. For example, the brigade and division info can be sourced to Joslen after being checked; it is the other parts that need a better source. I would imagine someone with access to Cunliffe should be able to source those parts. Regards, EnigmaMcmxc (talk) 00:33, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - Joslen does seem to confirm part of the deleted bit so I have restored the relevant bit. Dormskirk (talk) 20:30, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Warwickshire Volunteer Regiment

[edit]

I've added an image of a WWI poster that refers to the "Warwickshire Volunteer Regiment", but that title is not used in the article. Can someone add something explaining it, please? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:54, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
