"Only congregation in..."

[edit]

This is actually a bit of a joke, and these bylines throughout the districts can be done away with. These notes are especially a joke to mention in a district such as this one, as the English District is one of the non-geographic districts of the LCMS. --Dulcimerist 10:28, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I realize it's obviously more pronounced and awkward with this district (and the English District), but it does help readers quickly locate the churches in each state rather than having to search the list. MisfitToys 23:26, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Non-geographic Districts

[edit]

A special note could be made on the different times there have been resolutions brought before the Synodical Convention that would dissolve the non-geographic districts, absorbing those congregations into the normal geographic districts. I can't remember which years an overture of this nature was made, though. This would be of interest to the article. --Dulcimerist 10:32, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am removing the extended list of congregations & missions. I certainly see the value of an article on a middle judicatory for a major american denomination, but not for the directory style list. AthanasiusQuicumque vult 19:09, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Largest Congregation in Ontario

[edit]

Our Saviour's is no longer a member of the SELC District, having moved to the English District over 10 years ago. Also, the current membership is closer to 80. messor (talk) 21:50, 23 January 2019 (UTC) Since nobody seems to have objected to this in the last nine months, assuming there are no objections following this comment, I'm going to go ahead and remove OSLC from the list. messor (talk) 22:29, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

SELC abbreviation?

[edit]

'SELC' is (or once was) presumably an abbreviation of something? What does it stand for? — BarrelProof (talk) 19:41, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The SELC District is the result of the Synod of Evangelical Lutheran Churches (formerly the Slovak Evangelical Lutheran Church) merging into the LCMS. They wanted to retain the SELC acronym as a reminder of their heritage. Indyguy (talk) 21:04, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Of course – I see that now. That was mentioned in the article, but not with explicit definition of the abbreviation. I just added that. — BarrelProof (talk) 00:20, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
