Encyclopaedia knowledge should include that of how a journey can influence a persons mindset. It can also serve as notice of those considering such undertakings - hence that which is below should stay here on the Talk Page.
Although the Australian government decided that Young Endeavour would be operated and maintained by the Royal Australian Navy, the vessel would be used to provide sail training to Australian youth. The scheme's aims are to develop teamwork and leadership skills in Australian youth, while increasing participants' self-awareness and sense of community spirit.
'...vessel would be used to provide sail training...'. Yet we were sternly told that we weren't here to learn to sail. But look out if you made an error with regards to the handling of the ship! :(
'...The scheme's aims were to develop teamwork...'. I was working in a trade within a large industrial environment before and after I went on board. Remind me what I learnt that I ought to have already known. YE crew nor office staffers did not take this into consideration.
'...develop Leadership skills'. Wrong again. How was that going to come about from managing 23 other youngsters - non of whom knew each other - who thought they were on a catered South Pacific cruise. And those few young men who wanted to fight behind closed doors...
'while increasing participants' self-awareness'. All professionals with YE elected to use ignorance and apathy from towards boisterous few, amongst hormonal, ego-driven, selfish others who disrupted harmony. Absence of any thoughtful care or alternate pursuit was given to those, say who came from flat regional areas and remained sea-sick throughout the sea journey. Nowadays I remain aware to disregard so many, many young people, and those of the ADF who serve on non-military junkets.
What is an example of the YE's Community Spirit?? It is not enough to have locals of a regional centre walk through, and the gold coins collected being donated to a local youth charity. Charity starts at home, and it may have been better if the master of the vessel lightened up and took note of what may go on behind the scenes. And how to manage alpha-males - of which I do not relate.
