Picture
[edit]Is there a more neutral photo of the school available? The one up currently is more of an advert than a descriptor. --TeaDrinker 00:25, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, that picture is very POV! funkendub 16:39, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- From a student's perspective, that's more or less what the school looks like in any photo. Or, for that matter, in person. Just sayin'. Moralis 01:11, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
POV
[edit]I am about to commence replacing some of Mightytotems' edits from today with the content that I'd added earlier. My reasoning for this is strictly centered on POV. I am not reverting the article, as some of Mightytotems' additions are not POV and in fact are perfectly acceptable and informative. Among others, I will be making the following changes:
- Mightytotems changed the phrase 'crosstown counterpart' to 'nearby rival' in reference to Interlake High School. From a student perspective, Interlake is perhaps the only school in the district which is -not- a rival, though I understand if some students are slightly bitter toward Interlake as they were our homecoming opponent. Three years ago, Interlake and Sammamish performed a very expensive and very successful mainstage show together, and some members of IHS athletics and drama participate in SHS programs where the IHS programs do not support their needs. For this reason I am going to replace the phrase 'nearby rival' in Mightytotems' edit with the phrase, 'neighbor school,' an undeniably neutral term.
- "Sammamish Graphic Arts is one of the best in state and (the) US as well." This sentence is clearly POV and while I happen to agree with it as a current Totem, it does not fit the requirements for a Wikipedia article. I am therefore replacing it with the sentence that had formerly been in its place, which read, "Sammamish Graphic Arts students often participate in state and regional graphics competitions." I would question whether this fact is notable enough to be considered 'encyclopedia-worthy' but it is at least neutral, which I feel will suffice until someone (hopefully Mightytotems?) can provide a more specific fact regarding the program.
- I'm eliminating some redundancies, adding a couple of "citation needed" tags, and cleaning up a little bit of sentence structure.
(see the page history for Sammamish High School for a complete list of changes I've made)
Mightytotems, please don't feel that I'm ripping on your additions to the article. I highly appreciate your addition of sources where I had placed tags earlier, and the fact that you provided most of the original content that I've been working with. We just need to keep it neutral. Totem Power. Moralis 06:44, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- I am an alumnus from the class of '88 and at least at that time they were our chief rivals in the district. That said, I think the AP section should be tagged for NPOV. This section begs a number of questions: who is disputing the validity of the rankings? (the author?). The reference is a general critique of the high school ratings and doesn't mention Sammamish. Why is this statement in a section called "Advanced Placement?" It seems to me to only be tangentially related. How is it relevant that "all other high schools in the district are listed as some of the best...?" My feeling is probably that this latter part of the section should be omitted unless the controversy is well documented in the literature. DionHouston (talk) 12:36, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- Oh and for that matter, the colors are Scarlet (not red) and Black, right? :) DionHouston (talk) 12:47, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Edit War
[edit]Mightytotems changed the phrase "neighbor school" to "rivalry." Again, I have to point out the issue of POV. Yeah, some of SHS is pretty mad at some of Interlake right now, but as a whole, the two schools aren't rivals by any means. Especially not when you compare their sentiments toward each other to their sentiments toward Bellevue High. This isn't exactly a high-profile article, but it irks me more than a little to see someone continually going in and reversing edits that were made for a reason.
I'm not flagging for vandalism because Mightytotems does continue to submit valuable and worthwhile content in addition to the POV content, but I'm starting to get pissed, so this is me using the talk page to vent my frustration.
Incidentally I removed one of the images that had been in the sidebar at top mostly because it took up half the page width... also for copyright issues, and because it contained the potentially controversial phrase, "Rated among top 1% of high schools nationwide!"
Don't get me wrong, I love my school, but I'd like to see an article which actually adheres to what Wikipedia articles are supposed to be. Thank you and goodnight. Moralis 07:43, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- I think you're correct, neighbor school is more neutral than "rivalry." Unless a source can be found for the rivalry, I don't think it belongs in the article. (On a grammatical aside, the word "rivalry" is used incorrectly in the sentence "...compared to its rivalry, Interlake High School." Rivalry describes a state, "rival" describes the object of that state). --TeaDrinker 08:05, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- I've been refraining from comment on the grammar and such involved with many prior additions to the article, but I should mention now that 90% of what I've done here has involved fixing such errors. Moralis 07:39, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Advertisements in Intro
[edit]Many aspects of this article sound like an advertisement, specially in the intro, can we change these to make them sound less of an advertisement or can we just delete them since I doubt they are adding anything to the article at all. Jc4p 02:19, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
- I am trying to take out parts with no source that I can find or fill in a source. Also Ill try to make it sound more neutral overall.--DerRichter 16:54, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
History
[edit]If anyone knows where they can get a hold of something about the history, that would be great because I know Sammamish is the second oldest school in Bellevue and it would be great to have a section for this.--DerRichter 17:45, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:774756997 l.gif
[edit]Image:774756997 l.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

now 2A
[edit]SHS is now 2A. Historical references e.g., to 3A championship games should not be changed. I tried changing other 3A references to 2A and it broke some links. I don't know how these auto-category links work. ---Vroo (talk) 08:30, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
