Nomenclature
[edit]Following sourced facts get removed by an IP editor. Since I'm not willing to get dragged into an edit war, I bring the question to the talk page.--Termer (talk) 17:57, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
- The term Samoyedic is sometimes considered derogatory because its etymology has been interpreted as originating from Russian: Samo-yed: "self-eater". [1] Therefore sometimes the word Samodeic [2] is preferred by ethnologists.[1] Other interpretations of Samoyedic etymology suggest that the term originates from an expression same-edne, meaning the Land of the Sami peoples. Samoyeds → Samoyedic peoples – This was an ignorant moves little while ago. "Samoyeds" is an obsolete term preserved exsclusively as a linguistic term "Samoyedic languages" and the corresponding grouping "Samoyedic peoples".- Altenmann >talk 23:23, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
- Support. Since the initial move was undiscussed, it’s okay to just move it back immediately. But a successful RM has the benefit of demonstrating consensus. —Michael Z. 20:25, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
- Support. A samoyed might also refer to the dog breed. Samoyedic peoples offers a natural way to disambiguate. Jähmefyysikko (talk) 19:04, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
