Naming

[edit]

I may be mistaken, but I think it should be "L'héritier" instead of "Lhéritier". A quick google search brings up both, but the correct French spelling is with an apostrophe. Regards. Pro bug catcher (talkcontribs). 04:28, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The correct spelling in French would be "L'Héritier", however his name is written "Lhéritier"... DITWIN GRIM (talk) 09:03, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The correct spelling would have been L'Héritier (literally "the heir") at some point in the family's history. However, by the time of the French revolution they had either dropped the apostrophe, or they did so as a result of the revolution. Many former nobles did so (the most famous example I can think of is d'Avout -> Davout) as a sign that they are renouncing their former status and supporting the principle of social equality imposed by the revolution.
